Linguistic is the scientific study of language whereas English literature is study of literature.

English literature is the literature written in the English language

English linguistic is a scientific study of language.

So, the similarity in just in language; English. The method and strategies are different.!

On the one hand we study the material written in English like novels, dramas etc And on the other hand linguistic is the study of language's inner part. How it could be composed, how we use different words, how we use to speak it, how different sound could be produced.!

English linguistic is science.and english literature is arts.as life do not follow scientific rules.every body has its own unique experiences.so you can interpret/analyse/evaluate life by different scales.each scale will be true.but to understand englsih literature one should has good grasp over linguistic.because language is the only mode of communication and your expression and you can evaluate literature only by the study of language.simply how you speak and how sound is created inside the wind pipe of your body.which sounds have music and which have noise.same is applied in written form as in particular discourse some words have music and some have`nt..and when writer use his/her particular combination of words /figure of speech and so ...it would be easy for one to analyse his/her life,his/her experiences because words express yourself and your are expressed by words.literature is life and linguistic is its part....linguistic deals with the syntax structure/semantics and discourse patterns.and also verbal and non verbal form of communication.so linguistic is a subject in which one can research and also evaluate the cultural patterns
