A tale of two cities is based upon the background of french revolution. However, there are certain other themes which are also of importance. Possibility of resurrection is placed among the themes of the novel. Corton's will of sacrificing himself for the the happiness of lucy shows his belief in resurrection. By reading its text we will come to know that Corton thinks that his sacrifice will not only bring peace to lucy but also will be beginning of Corton's peaceful life after death.

Sacrifice can be called one the important themes of the novel. Corton's sacrifice for his friend is most important scene of the novel as after this scene condition are going to be good in that society. In fact, Corton's belief over personal loyalties can be seen in this novel, that's why inspite of being part of revolution, he opposed this decision of hanging Darney and sacrificed for his friend and lucy whom he loved a lot.
