they are important. after all, through these movements, women in west snatched their due rights. the first movement was for the right of suffrage if i am not wrong. it spans somewhere between 1870s and 1920s. the second was more radical in nature. it is often referred to as Radical Feminism. you need to surf internet for that or buy some standard book.

I can give you general outline of the topic that will help you understand the topic, and also give detailed article. This will make it easier for you to understand the topic.

First wave feminism:

Start: 1848 Senenca falls convention on women rights.
End: 1920 with grant of suffrage to women in US through 19th Amendment to US constitution.
Aim: To acquire rights of vote and equality for women.
Methods: Public speaking, agitation and by refuting the "cult of domesticity". Cult of domesticity holds that women are best suited to stay home.

Second wave feminism:

Start:1960's linked to Women liberation movement.
End: 1980's with criticism from black women and other categories of women of "identity politics" of WLM. Identity politics means the politics of women based on assumption that women as a "category" share some fundamental features and experiences. Also, the end of second wave was marked by criticism from post-structural criticism of the formation of "categories".Category creation themselves were considered as a creation of "heterosexual" order created in turn by patriarchy.
Aim: To free women of oppression, to remove inequality of power between men and women, to reveal that gender is social construction creating hierarchical relations between genders. They also worked to acquire freedom of reproduction, and sexuality of women. Violence against women, sexism, equal pay were other focus of second wave feminist.

Third wave feminism:
Start: 1980-90
End: Ongoing
Aim: To deconstruct heterosexual order, to recognize differences among women while claiming that women can form coalitions to deal with matters of importance while still maintaining distinct identity. They also argue against formation of categories since its a product of heterosexual order, and only served to perpetuate patriarchal order.
Methods: Women only bands, cyberspace, etc.

I just read this article and I wrote the summary here just to test how much I retained. So, it is requested of the readers to point mistakes. Thanks.

You can use the following articles for details. It is very good and simple explanation of the three waves.

No, it wont be enough. For that read Rubina Saigol "Status of women studies" portion first few pages to get an idea of women movement in Pakistan and how it lost its edge. I think that would be enough to cover this topic. I have given link to the article.
