Does Geography for CSS require cramming?
Is the CSS syllabus for geography of the kind that requires a lot of cramming? or is does it require more of a conceptual sort of way for learning? Please help a novice, who has to start it from the barest.
Thanks |

@heavenly
welcome to css forum geography is subject in which concepts are important.once you have good concepts,you can easily learn things. cramming is required to some extent(as in most of css subject) and is necessary because you have to support your answers with facts. make your concepts clear and understand diagrams. you can easily explain your concepts supported by diagrams. cramming is required but once you have gone through whole syllabus 2 or 3 times before exams,its not a problem

the subject requires concept. Check 2010 paper, without having sound concept about a topic, it would be difficult to pass the paper.

regards @aariz aoa i viewed your profile,you haven't mentioned your subjects. without any practical experiance,and without having gone through the whole process of preparation and assessment,it is hard to give any accurate judgement about the nature of the subject.but if you have gone through the whole process,that i have mentioned,then you must agree that 70% syllabus of geo 1 requires memorisation and rest of the 30% i.e Map making,atmosphere etc. alone is conceptual.whereas 70% of the paper contains questions from the above mentioned 70% and remaining from 30%.still that 30% is not free from number of terms that you have cram. best regards

Totally Agreed...Paper 1 especially required some cramming...but remember "Cramming alone would not lead you anywhere"...

Geography A is conceptual and it requires less cramming.some concepts are quite overlapping in geography A.
Geography B requires cramming.My background is technical one,during preparation a time came when i was thinking that y did i select geography.every subject requires time.and you have ample time so prepare seriously from the very first day and try to complete your preparation till december.Best of luck

umarabbas has said P1 requires "some cramming". Since I am handicapped of retaining knowledge word for word, I would like to know the relative percentage (hypothetically, ofcourse) of cramming that goes into attempting the geography paper. Please volunteer your estimations!

if you have good english expression then cramming is not necessary . you only have to cram few terms and right sequences in paper 1. paper 2 also requires same. cramming also required when you have to remember some data but that not too much and is easy to learn.
in my view ,cramming is not necessary because it is not going to help in exam because of limited time to revise in exams.good concepts and way of writing with neat and correct diagrams are required. due to time shortage for revision in exams you have to limit your cramming and move more to wards concepts.because strong concepts are easy to revise then cramming. few facts and data only in limited questions is required and that is easy,can be revised in exams. don't worry if one cannot cram,build good concepts.practice is key to success
