DESERTS:- deserts are places where there is very less rainfall & where plants & fruits cannot be harvested. there are numerous deserts in the world,all having unique geographical characteristics.some of the famous deserts are as following:- [B]1:-SAHARA:- the sahara also known as THE GREATEST DESERT,or AL-KUBRA DESERT in arabic,is the largest desert in the world.its nearly as large as the continent of Europe and is spread over 9,000,000 sq.kms.to the west of sahara is the Atlantic ocean, the Mediterranean sea and Atlas mountains in the north,to the east there is Egypt and the RED sea and to the south is the vally of the NIGER RIVER and SUDAN.half of the area of sahara recieves less than 2 cm of rain per year. [B]2:-ARABIAN DESERT:- IT stretches from the PERSION GULF to YEMEN and from OMAN to IRAQ nad JORDAN,which is of the arabian peninsula and has an area of 2,330,000 sq.kms. at the centre of the arabian desert is one of the largest bodies of sand in the world,called RUB-AL-KHALI.it means an empty quarter in english, is spread over southern s.arabia,some area of OMAN YEMAN AND UAE.with an area of 650,000 sq.kms, its larger than the combined area of FRANCE,BELGIUM NAD THE NETHERLAND. this area is also the 2nd most oil rich place in the world. [B] 3:-GOBI DESERT:-its the largest desert area in asia. it lies in CHINA AND MANGOLIA.The Gobi desert is bordered by MANGOLIA AND ALTAI MOUNTAINS in the north,TIBETAN Plateau in the southwest and NORTH CHINA PLAINS lie in the southeast. its a cold desert and frost usually covers the sand dunes.nearly 7.6 inches of rain fall occures per year and winter air comes in from SIBERIA which makes the atmosphere moist. Gobi desert has extreme temeratures ranging from -40 degree celsius in winters and 50 degree celsius in summers. 4:-KALAHARI DESERT:- IN tswana(language spoken in southern Africa) the word KALAHARI is derived from(Kgala) meaning a (waterless place) Kalahari desert is located in the southern part of Africa and covers part of Namibia and Bostwana. its area is 350,000 sq.mls. nearly 4 to 7 inches of rainfall occures per year. temperature range from 20-45 degree celsius. 5:- PANTAGONIAN DESERT:- The Pantagonian desert,a cold winter desert,has an area of 260,000 sq.miles and is situated in Argentina wth some part of Chile.THE ANDES is located at its west and Atlantic Ocean is on the east. the temperature remains around 3 degree celsius and barely exceeds 12 degree celsius. the sumeer season is of 5months nad winter season is 7 months long. this desert is formed mostly by plateau and gravel plains. 6:- THAR DESERT:- The Thar desert or Great Indian Desert is situated in the nprth western part of the indian subcontinent. it has an area of 77,000 sq.mlies nad is the 3rd largest desert in asia. located in the Indain state of Rajastan.it extends into the southern portion of Haryana, Punjab and northern Gujrat,whereas in Pakistan it lies in eastern sindh and the southern portion of punjab. regards syeda sabahat
