Question Glacial Landforms and River Landforms

Hi all,

I am facing confusion in the glacial and river land forms' questions in the past papers...What will be the answers of the following questions;

Describe landforms and evolution of landscapes of glaciation in the mid and high latitudes. (2010)
Write in detail on the actions of the river in its youth, maturity and old age. (2009)

Although I tried to find answers from internet and book but confusion is still there. So guys please help me to remove the problem by providing some relevant material on the both topics or just the outline that how to answer these questions...Thanks

chap dear sometime examiner twist the question to check your understanding about the subject.this is what has done in these question, but if we look at them deeply they are actually very easy questions.

1st question is about evolution and land form in mid and high latitudes.

now you know in higher latitudes glacial work is mostly erosional and how it erode and what features it formed, that`s what you have to define.

like formation of horn how it formed when two glaciers erode the mountain from two opposite side up to the tip of mountain it form horn.

then in the middle latitude there is change in temperature so the work of glacier would be of deposition.like morains, drumlines.

further there are glacio fluviate features.

2nd question is simply the work of river in 3 stages.

1) youth stage

a)consequent streams
b)gorges
c)canyons
d)v-shaped valley

and up tostream piracy.

2)mature stage

a)meandering
b)oxbow lake
c)levees
d) flood plain some says it forms in old age but according to w.m.davis it forms in late maturity.

3)old age

the low lying erosional surface which is the ultimate product of the old age is peneplain.

regards sabahat

Mid Latitude Glacial Landforms relate to continental glaciers;while the high latitudes are concerned with Ice Sheets or Polar Glaciers. The answer is same but the question has been given a sharp twist.
