2008 – “Freedom of Press” and “Responsibility” are two common issues in the filed of journalism. Discuss and evaluate the case of Pakistan regarding these concepts?

First of all a general rule is that, whenever you want to attempt or understand any question. the break into parts, according to its key words. like these questions mainly have to parts or key words i.e. free press and responsibilities (of press);

First write any good defination of press, (which you found easy) then write the history of free press like............Officials view the printing press as a device to be used in support for the monarch and other authorities. At the least, the press was to print material that was politically neutral and did not question the establishment. It was the king’s prerogative as to who would own and operate a printing press. Systems of censorship and press licensing were set up in an attempt to control the increasing flood of new books, broadsides and pamphlets since Gutenberg’s printing press in the mid-1500s. A free press is not a privilege but an organic necessity in a great society. Without criticism and reliable and intelligent reporting, the government cannot govern. For there is no adequate way in which it can keep itself informed about what the people of the country are thinking and doing and wanting.
but for the sack of right news which is not biased to monarch, then goverment should free this institute from all political and other influences. that is the only way that peoples can know the right point on every news and information:
on the other hand;

responsibility of press is to give a timely but right news to peoples. press is the pillar of information, it has responsibility to work for the favor of truth.
here are at least two major roles of the media in a democratic society.

First, the media needs to give people the information that they need in order to make informed decisions about issues of the day. For example, in the US today, it is the responsibility of the media to tell people about the contending budget plans that are being put out by the Republican and Democratic parties. If the media does not tell the people what the proposals say, the people will not know which they like better and, therefore, which party to support.

Second, the media needs to act as a "watchdog" to ensure that government officials and agencies are acting in proper ways. The media needs to investigate public officials whenever there seems to be any sort of wrongdoing going on. For example, the media needs to make sure that the public knows about things like the scandal surrounding Sen. Ensign of Nevada.

By doing these sorts of things, the media helps the people have the information they need to rule themselves. This is the responsibility of the media in a democratic society.
this an simple idea to solve these questions, you must need to expend it according to marks.
