Oh the main question, the style guide. What should I tell my teacher about that, any idea?
http://doclecture.net/1-7033.html incorrect we took a tent,a cooler, and a sleeping bag. correct we took tent, cooler, and a sleeping bag. a material noun, when used in general sense, does not need determiner. here tent and cooler are proper nouns because someone is taking them so they are some specific tent and cooler so as a rule there will be ‘zero article'. also mentioned in exploring the world of English by syed saadat Ali shah page no: 430 indefinite article is used with ‘sleeping bag because it is the combination of adjective and common noun in the singular number Sent from my A10 using Tapatalk |
Sorry to say but tent and cooler are not proper nouns but the commen nouns and an artical is specifically used to describe its properness.. so for the sentence a cooler is correct at it is avoiding the genralization and mentioning a coller specific taken to the trip...
Regards. |

you were supposed to simply add a colon. Its usual to add a colon before u start writing names in a list. I just checked somewhere on the internet. We took: a cooler, a tent and a sleeping bag

dear this question has perturbed me sorry but you are wrong one is bound use colon after independent clause; having complete meaning ‘we took' is not an independent clause http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/colons http://m.grammarbook.com/punctuation-rules/colons.aspx check rule number 2 in second link Sent from my A10 using Tapatalk |

Just say her to consult my mentioned site, because other than this error no mistake is there as far as my knowledge is concerned.:shy Thanks for the complement. But I believe expectations are dangerous.:vic |
Regarding the sentence we took a tent, a cooler, and a sleeping bag, the correction could only be of comma and thus the corrected sentence would be
We took a tent, a cooler and , a sleeping bag. That's just what I think since there were also other sentences in this exercise that required mere correction of punctuation |
