yeah right! The mcq's were strange and somewhat difficult in the original 2013 attempt as well. it was a mixture of both repeated questions and some novel.

2) Briefly describe the role of nitrogen , phosphorous and potassium in the growth of plants. What are negative impacts of fertilisers? -Nitrogen: required for growth in general: Metabolism, Cell Structures, Chlorophyll etc. Too little: improper growth. Too much: no fruits, no flowers, plant burning -Phosphorus: regulates protein synthesis, development of new cells etc, winter hardness deficiency somewhat similar to nitrogen, slow growth etc Potassium: resistance to pests and diseases, increases protein production, efficiency of water use Negative impacts of fertilizers? -Eutrophication -leeching -Polluting the eco-system and entering food chains -Blue baby syndrome anyone who happens to even rudimentary preparation for EDS would have gone through these questions in the past 3) Why long exposure of human skin to the sunlight is dangerous? What are various natural protections in our body against the harmful radiations in the Sunlight? Is there any positive impact of radiations? - Heard of Skin Cancer? Or sun burns? or rashes? tumors? freckles? - Yaar yeh tou fair and lovely k ad mey bhi atta hay melanin? protects from these harmful affects -positive impact of radiations on skin? Vitamin D? and the benefits of Vitamin D Vitamin D is such a common question and uv radiation questions are common too 4) Describe briefly the difference between. Conductors, semiconductors and insulators? The easiest of all -Conductors: Free valence electrons, metals, electron sea concept etc -Semi-conductors: p type, n type, Properties of both under various conditions -insulators: do not conduct electricity because no free valence electrons 5) Give a brief account of use of radiation in medical diagnosis. Why MRI is preferred over CT scan or X-RAY imaging? Agreed many people would not have done it. but MRI has been repeated! 6)a) Why DDT once labelled as a miracle is now being considered an Environmental tragedy? b) A large variety of deodorants mask the original odour of our body . Which body part produces the unpleasant smell and how it is produced? I would skip this question. I don't know anything about the sweat glands 7) Why people have switched to vegetable oil for cookin instead of saturated fats? Which of these two contain higher level of LDL? Is it HDL or LDL which is harmful to human health and why? HDL, LDL has been discussed in 2012 I believe (because I appeared in that paper as mcqs) 8) What are natural sources of vitamin D and symptoms of its deficiency in humans? Vitamin D related to the earlier question. Deficiency is very common since learning the basic vitamins and their deficiencies are one the most essential topics to learn for EDS Why an indiscriminate use of antibiotics may prove dangerous? -Drug Resistance? bacteria resistance to the drug -Allergies to the antibiotic etc - Damage to the body, intestine etc 9) Define Radioactivity . How alpha , beta and gamma radiations are produced as a result of decay of an unstable nucleus differ in their effects on living beings? One of the easiest of all. Repeated many times in MCQs and in long questions The effects on living beings is also easy because they can be divided into ionizing and non-ionizing and ionizing causes DNA damage a.k.a Cancer so, I agreed to the extent that during the pressure of the paper, it certainly is difficult to think of the answers. But that is what css is about is it not? There were no conceptual questions as far as I am concerned. in 2013 original paper, there were questions like Earth Hour, which does require some conceptual understanding and linking it to the purpose of the Earth Hour Anyways, anybody with rudimentary prep would have been able to do most of the questions (unlike the Pakistan Affairs paper which was a killer and the English Essay which were outright stupid especially that very very very very walla Essay )
