Pakistan will not allow foreign troops on its soil: Qureshi

* Foreign minister says Islamabad will not give or accept any blank cheque
* Says world should recognise Pakistan as nuclear power

MULTAN: No foreign military would be allowed to set foot in Pakistan and the country’s law enforcement agencies will conduct anti-terrorism operations inside the country, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Sunday.

He told reporters at the Multan airport on his arrival that during his recent visit to Washington, he had conveyed to the US that NATO would not be allowed to conduct operations in Pakistan. They have understood our point of view and accepted it, he added. He said that the US has introduced a bill worth $10.5 billion for Pakistan, which comprises $7.5 billion as economic assistance and $3 billion for military assistance. He hoped more assistance would be forthcoming in the wake of the Friend of Democratic Pakistan meeting scheduled for April 17 in Tokyo.

No blank cheque: Referring to US President Barack Obama’s statement on “no blank cheques”, he said Pakistan would neither give any blank cheque, nor would it accept any. “We are a sovereign country and a nation with self-esteem,” he said, adding that while the US is a military and economic power, Islamabad wants to negotiate with them on the basis of equality as an ally.

The foreign minister said defeat in the war on terror was not an option for Pakistan. He said the terrorists were challenging the writ of government and wanted to impose their own system. He said there are two different kinds of elements in the troubled areas: the irreconcilable elements with whom the government would not negotiate and the reconcilable elements with whom talks were an option.

Qureshi also urged the world to accept Pakistan’s status as a nuclear power and recognise it as had been done with India. “We are a responsible nuclear power and it will be appropriate that the world should recognise it,” he added. To questions on a rocket launch by North Korea, he said Pakistan was against nuclear proliferation and would move along with the world for the noble cause of peace. He said Pakistan wants resumption of composite dialogue process with India, adding Islamabad would welcome any help from ‘friends’ in this regard.

He said that special US envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan Ambassador Richard Hallbrook would visit Pakistan on April 7. He said the narcotics trade was funding extremism and terrorism and sought combined efforts of regional countries to stop that. He also expressed grief over the recovery of over 50 dead bodies from a container. Qureshi strongly condemned the public flogging of a girl in Swat, saying it was against sharia. He said a three-member UN panel would soon meet to prepare modalities for investigations into the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. He also condemned the suicide blast in Chakwal. app

Often we Read news in which US and British authorities badger Pakistan to do more.

And now US's new offer to conduct joint military operations in Pakistan. This was much expected. It is well said that those who do not learn from mistakes of the history/past are condemned to repeat them.Americans have not learnt anything from Vietnam. They are also not learning from futile invasions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now they want to conduct joint military operations. This will give the Taliban another moral cause to thwart an alien invader. My analysis is that the crusade of Taliban against US and that of US against Al-Qaeda will be vindicated if anything such as this happens. But US also misses another central point that majority of Pakhtun and Baloch population will view it as an all out war against them. Both these groups are territorially notorious. They will never allow US to gain foothold in that region.Such an idea can never be floated without the connivance of India,Russia and Israel.it is conspicuously visible that US is trying to test the limits of our cooperation.A point will reach when it will declare that Pakistan is no more in a mood to cooperate and as a last resort we are invading.I pray this never happens.

Through my personal reading i have come across the logical reasons behind Drone attacks in Paksitan.Humans behave in a very predicatble way.I will use the example of a Child as an anology.
A child does many a different thing. He will never take liberty at once.He will do different things and constantly seek the approval of the Parents to tame his senses. Those senses are of approval and rejection.

US knew that it cannot get away with invasion or violation of Paksitani Sovereignty at once. So,it adopted the aforementioned startegy to systemetaically arrive at the point where it has gained enough moral grounds for the justification and necessity of drone attacks.Clearly The drone attacks are a sign of US dismay over Talban resurgence and trust deficit.since US is pursuing unilaterally the war in Fata Theatre-through drone attacks-it no longer feels any compunction to share actionable intelligence. The deficit of trust and has demoted Pakistan to the status of a mercenay force from potential ally..Little wonder then that if we withdarw our support from this war, there will be no retaliation from Taliban and end of suicide bombings.A planned maligning campaign launched in US media to weaken ISI.

If we trace the history of US consternation with Pakistani performance in war on terror following are the critical points.

1-US not satisfied with Paksitan's performance in WOT
2-Pakistan's Tribal belts safe havens for Al-Qaeda
3-US goads Paksitan to do more
4-US casts aspersions on the role of ISI
5-US starts drone attacks and terms them necessary

The recent summit between hoolbrooke, mike mullen and our FM qureshi has markedly displayed that US and Pakistan are not on the same page. This public revelation of dicord on the modus operandi of conducting the war further hightens our concerns.

The US is carrying out drone attacks as show or pretext of its hoplessness in our security establishment's cooperation in the WOT.I dare say it is and eyewash to hide the truth. Now something to prognosticate.
US or other stakeholders(unknown foreign hands) will try their level best to create instability and then justifiably invade Pakistan. They want to de-fang Pakistan by getting hold of our nuclear weapons.I also believe that once they get hold of our nuclear weapons this whole episode of WOT will end in doom.i hope it never happens.

Regards,

Sikander

"Pakistan will not allow foreign troops on its soil: Qureshi"

Yet Pakistan will allow drone attacks and will agree to retaliate only with "angry remarks" and "statements". This is slave-talk, clear and simple.

Yes, It is an undeniable truth that Govt never allowed any terrorism, suicide blast, target killing of innocent people and steps of foriegn troops on the soil of Pakistan but the saddened fact is
"Nobody ever asked permission to do so".

I agree to Avalon that ‘Nobody ever asked for permission to do so’ whether it’s the leaser guided missiles attacks or the drone attacks.
Moreover, the Pakistani government has always reiterated her stance that the foreign troops or feign hands won’t be allowed to use the soil of Pakistan for creating instability in the region yet it has lent its air force bases to the foreign troops.
