Is he right?
MQM chief Altaf Hussain told his party workers on Sunday that army generals had imposed martial laws in the past and so they could take a similar action again to weed out corrupt politicians and the MQM would support such an act.

The context is important. Maybe, in his point of view, this nation doesnt deserve democracy, rather needs a stick...Democracy works only with educated enlightened masses having independant thinking which our country severely lacks. It is really a matter of analysis whether democracy suits to Pakistan. But, on the other hand, the saying "worst democracy is better than the best dictatorship" is cogent.

Thanks, but i said we must analyse whether democracy is suitable for pakistan. It requires analysis of our, cultural, religious and political background.

I second Mashwanee with his disposition that Altaf Hussain has been noticed with passing such statements, we should not be making this as argument that is democracy suitable for Pakistan instead we should pose the question why it has not been suitable for Pakistan. Its because of such leaders with their self centered politics who can go to any extreme for their vested interest. Altaf Hussain is doing nothing but spreading anarchy and the argument that democracy is not appropriate for Pakistan is again a weak thought indicating that we will never achieve a democratic sovereign system.

first off when we say that worst form of democracy is better than best dictatorship.....then dictatorship is not even an option to be considered.....
secondly....u r very true..that democracy works with the educated enlighted masses and having independent thinking...but i have a question.....how does dictatorship help in educating our ppl or for that matter make them independent thinkers..... dear beleive me no matter how muck analysis we do.....dictatorship is not an option it never was..... |

Im not considering dictatorship an option at any stage. But, keeping in view the obstinacy, persistent corruption, lawlessness, etc. etc. dont you think a True Molvi or a honest dictator with stick has become inevitable to stabilize the country????
Im not recommending it. dont we see it as a final option

Quote:
Why can't we just vote for persons that share the same goals, ideas as we have? If suitable political leadership does not exist, you can always start a new movement, convince and satisfy the populace that you are right. This movement can eventually achieve political power if enough people think likewise; As in dictatorships the quality of information tends to suffer, as in totalitarian systems the feedback-channel is most often plugged. Democracy necessitate certain level of education in a society to work successfully,as majority of voters sale his votes , so it is necessary that every one must be educated and aware of his duties, rights and responsibilities |
