Default Making Industry Internationally Competitive

Hey everyone..

I was actually reading up on the effects of Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs) in Pakistan and couldn't find any related supporting documents on the 8th pillar i.e. making industry internationally competitive..so was wondering if somebody could help me in this regard...

I would like to add that this year the interview panel has been asking questions about MDGs and PRSPs so it would help everyone concerned to at least skim through the basics of both...

You didn't found material on making our industry competitive?

Actually, they have done nothing to make it competitive. it will be competitive when both quality and price will be competitive. current situation of energy crisis and allied issues are making industrial growth very tough. So making it competitive is perhaps some thing next to possible given the current scenario of Pakistan.

In poverty reduction strategies context, making industries internationally competitive, the development sector is focusing on those industries which mostly related to poor i.e. Gems & Jewelry, Dairy, Marble & Granite, Furniture, Horticulture/Food Processing and Surgical sectors etc. The aim is capacity building and livelihood improvement of poor populace. For instance, a NGO is working under project "Pakistan Initiative for Strategic Development and Competitiveness" (PISDAC), aimed at increasing the competitiveness of Pakistani small and medium sized enterprises.

Since it was launched in May 2004, PISDAC has helped industry develop a private sector led dialogue with the public sector to identify policy reforms and initiatives that will make the sectors internationally competitive. Each sector group includes industry leaders, government officials, academics, related industries and service providers, relevant NGOs and others in the value chain, all working together to develop strategies and implement projects and initiatives.

From government side Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) have been two key partners in the PISDAC process. These Pakistani agencies have helped the Gems and Jewelry sector move forward on its ambitious goal to increase exports beyond the billion-dollar mark.

How these efforts making industry internationally competitive please try following:
