Default National Security Council

Please comment on effectiveness and role of National Security Council in sustaining stable government. National Security council is a body initiated by President Parvez Musharaf to prevent future army coup. NSC's members include President (Chairman), prime minister, four provincial chief minister, leader of the opposition in national assembly, Senate chairman, speaker of the national assembly, Chairman of Joint Chief of staff of staff committee and chiefs of army, air force and navy.

This system is to ensure that prime minister is in check by giving a platform to express dissent with prime minister and thus prevent any drastic action by army. I believe this is not a very effective system since NSC is only consultative body and has no power over the decisions of Prime minister. If we have to put a system in effect which would esure check and balance over different branches of government, we would have to come up with a system that controls decisions of these branches rather than merely putting pressure on them.

Please comment and express your thoughts. Don't hesitate to correct me, I would appreciate.

Dear forum fellow if u say effectiveness of National Security Council in sustaining stable Military govt then i would agree 100% with U!Its a gr8 traditi0n of Pakistani politics tht every Pakistani ruler just from the day of taking power tends to think only over his/her candidature as a ruler, except Quaid. So the rules introduced by them are not to strengthen Political structure of Pakistan but to strengthen their seat/Position.NSC is also a similar effort to streghten Musharaf's position in political picture of Pakistan.NSC's good point is it seems to support a check and balance over Primeminister's activities!Mr.Enlightened u r very right by saying tht v would have to come up with a system that controls decisions of Political institutions. And its not very difficult just a coordinated balance between authorities of President and Prime Minister...No...One Man Show should be beared for true Political structure and Democracy.
