Kashmir:A Pragmatic Appraoch is required
In international diplomacy morality fihgures little , as self-interest and balance power serve as decisve factor behind behind policies and decisons of the countries. Accorngly, in spite of high moral position as a party to Kashmir Dispute, Pakistan can not transform its dream in to reality solely on the basis of moral advantage over India.Moreover Pakistan's alleged involvment in militancy in Kashmir has dealt a blow to Pakistan's image.
Armed conflict is simply out of question in genral and in the context of Indo Pak dispute over Kashmir in special.Only a sane can deny the fact that Pakistan by no means can get control of kashmir by waging war against india. In view of the above, we have to accept that we canot tranform our desire in to reality for solution of Kashmir.Even if Kashmirs are given the right to vote, there is no guarentee that Kashmiris would opt to become part of Pakistan. Kashmir dispute is central point of internal and external policies of Pakistan. Our spending on arms is disporportionate to our income and we are doing so at expense of spending on people's welfare.And this is for the objective that by no means can termed as practical.Then should'nt we think out of the box? |

Two generations have been passed on the issue...3rd will pass too...Next will also be passed..Kashmiris have to rise by themselves to resolve their issues despite of depending on Pak and India...A final decision should be made internally...Do or Die...

I think composite dialogue,as perused,is the best way to curb all Indo-Pak bilateral issues-Water,the Siachin,the Sir Creek and the bone of content the Kashmir.Problems can not be resolved overnight so how can these grave issues be?Obviously,it will take time.The leadership from both sides should chalk out a viable plan,constituting the wishes of the Kashmiri people particularly and their national interests generally instead of politicizing it further or offering only lip-services.Being realistic,we should not be hoping its resolution in a wink of time;for a 68 years old issue will certainly take time to be restored to normalcy.
The principle of 'Give and take' should be taken in account and all conspiracies by foreign players like 'Divide and rule' be averted prudently.Concrete steps should be taken in this regard,keeping in mind the future of the coming generations.All the stakeholders-the leaders,the common masses,the think-tanks,the mediamen and trek 2 diplomats should extend their full support for transforming this fence into heaven.In it,lies the welfare of the miserable people. Regards, Imtiaz Ahmad Khan

the issue has two aspects;
1. Active role of Pakistan's foreign ministry on international forum regarding Kashmir. 2. Deviate from making 'Kashmir' as central point in our defence policy. now, when I say deviate from Kashmir as central defence policy, it does not mean that we should diminish our focus from Kashmir. But bring the attention of the nations to the issue by talk and general awareness at international forums. This needs a paradigm shift in Pakistan's foreign policy and defence policy.

Kashmir Day! what is different in this day? Nothing--- it is just an other symbolic representation like that of AIDS day and world Water Day.
Neither India nor Pakistan have been serious towards the logical solution of this perpetual issue. The ultimate sufferers are Kashmiris, we have lost a complete generation in search of our identity. Who are we? Pakistanis? No, because Pakistan has itself declared it disputed territory. Indians? No because we do not have any logic to claim it. Kashmiris? Who are these? do they really exist? Kashmir is not a recognized state on the face of earth. Do not treat Kashmir just as a security menace between two nuclear powers, there is yet another reason that demands its solution, Kashmir seeks attention for the sake of some some 17 million people living across 84471 sq Mile area ruled by three different sovereign countries. Divided families want to be one, mothers have passed without meeting there children for years, Srinagar's Graveyard of Martyrs has reached its physical bottleneck, public has reached there mental bottleneck but Kashmir still bleeds and will continue as bleeding stops with breathing.

In current circumstances, there is no pragmatic and problem-solving approach of Pakistan army and political leadership to resolve the issue of Kashmir. In the past, whenever the civilian governments of Pakistan & India initiated the dialogue process to resolve the Kashmir along with other outstanding issues, the process was derailed by establishment of either on side or the other. Truly speaking, we have almost lost the case of Kashmir. Our dearest army has acknowledged the fact by shifting its focus from eastern border to the menace of internal militancy and insurgency, by reviving its military docrination, which is quiet realistic approach then the former one. We have lost the moral ground after the Kargil debacle and more recently the firing exchange on LoC. International community is susceptible on our position vis-a-vis Kashmir issue. Pakistan's foreign policymen were unable to pursue its case in internationl arena, but India did. Kashmir issue has now been left to be discussed on Kashmir Day, 5th Feb, where Government as well as Private sector employees will enjoy a holiday, cursing the Indians in Kashmir all day long and will earn Sawaab-i-dareen.
