Post Lt. Col threatens SC lawyer in missing persons’ case

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court will hear the missing persons’ case on a day-to-day basis from April 5.

On Thursday, a three-member bench headed by Justice Javed Iqbal had to briefly suspend the proceedings when a serving Lt. Col threatened one of the missing persons’ lawyers for allegedly ridiculing the army.

Advocate Hashmat Habib told the bench that Lt. Col Sarfraz from the Ministry of Defence threatened him of dire consequences in the court premises.

During his arguments, Hashmat Habib requested the court to summon heads of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Military Intelligence (MI) in the missing persons’ case.

The court took strong notice of the incident and asked the Lt. Col why he had threatened a Supreme Court lawyer.

Lt. Col Sarfraz insisted he had only advised Hashmat Habib not to ridicule the army.

Later, he tendered an unconditional apology.

Earlier, Attorney-General Anwar Mansoor informed the court that the government had decided to form a three-member judicial commission to deal with the missing persons’ case.

However, Amna Janjua, representing the missing persons, argued that the proposed judicial commission would only delay the matter and requested that the Supreme Court must take its proceedings to their logical conclusion. — DawnNews
