Post Federal cabinet approves Labour Policy 2010
ISLAMABAD: Addressing the media on account of the International Labour Day on Saturday, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani announced the salient features of the new Labour Policy 2010.

The new policy was approved by the federal cabinet on Saturday.

Prime Minister Gilani said the policy represents the vision of Benazir Bhutto.

According to the policy, the new minimum wage has been set at rupees 7,000 and committees will be formed on both federal and provincial levels to implement labour laws.

Furthermore, Gilani said the government was regularising all contract employees, providing social security to retired registered workers and giving financial relief to sacked employees. This policy will come into effect from June 1, 2010.

The federal cabinet in its meeting also decided to bring to an end the practice of forced labour. — DawnNews
