A political ‘error’

IT is sad to witness the latest editions of the Punjab Textbook Board books carrying an unpleasant change, replacing the words of wisdom of the Founder of the Nation, the Quaid-e-Azam, with the sayings of President Musharraf and Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi. It is ironic that the present establishment, which claims to follow the footsteps of the Father of the Nation, devoted to the welfare of its people, have actually shown disrespect to their mentor by committing the so-called ‘error’ of changing his messages with their own on account of updating the curriculum, which was otherwise not in harmony with the times.
With the 2007 elections round the corner the ‘error’ is conspicuously a deliberate act to manipulate the minds of the youth of Pakistan, to change their apathy into an admiration for the present leadership of their country. The messages by the President and Chief Minister emphasise ‘modernisation’ of the curriculum, which is surely unprecedented, as no government in the past has been able to come up with such mistakes in the name of progress. It is heartening to know that the government desires to revise and update curriculum and textbooks but changing the messages in the beginning or the end of the books would not be an improvement in the quality of education.
Moving with the times is the need of the hour but it does not mean that we break from our past by not giving due reverence to the founder of Pakistan and omitting his words of sterling advice. If the Board has as little interference in matters of the curriculum as claimed by the Textbook Board Chairman Jehangir Aziz, then the responsibility cannot be shifted to former Board Chairman Saleem Akhtar Kiyani. The government needs to give explanation for meddling in the matters of designing the curriculum and politicising the textbooks, as it is hard to digest that changing the messages in the latest versions of all the textbooks could be merely a mistake.

I agree with you. these double standard "politicans" and dicatators is diguise of politicians don't deserve to post their welcome note in the textbooks for the students, how can they even think to compare themselves equal to IQBAL AND JINNAH, and not even this, ... daring enough to replace their quotes and advice on education with their own "VISION" of "modernization". aakhir main aik line likhna chahon ga, "in logon ka bus chlay to CURRENCY say QUAID-E-AZAM ki tasveer hatta kar apni tasveer laga dain"!!!!!!!

These insititutions are not going to produce metioned personalities rather their concern is totally shifted towrads brain washing of young children. A new so called modern thought is injected in their fresh brains.
