Nawaz gives up on Zardari-Gilani duo
ISLAMABAD: Fearing serious consequences for Pakistan because of the non-serious attitude and sheer failures, one after the other, of the present rulers to meet the challenges confronting the nation, the PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif is seriously chewing on the option of launching a campaign to remove the corrupt and inefficient from power.
A senior PML-N leader confided to The News that Nawaz Sharif is now finally convinced that the continuation of the ruling Gilani-Zardari duo might badly hurt the country. He has now started discussing the options and is seeking the views of his party leaders on how to get rid of the present regime. Generally Nawaz Sharif and his PML-N’s friendly opposition have been cited as the major reason for their subtle support to the present rulers of Islamabad to misrule Pakistan. The PML-N, it is however claimed, is now not prepared to give any further space to the present rulers for the sake of Pakistan. “This is a situation that demands the safety and security of the state instead of the system,” the source said. It is pertinent to mention here that in 2010 Nawaz Sharif had once said in a press conference that President Asif Ali Zardari was the most serious threat to democracy and the system but still no strategy was evolved and implemented to check such a “threat.” According to the PML-N source, who claimed to have already discussed the matter with Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N chief has now realised that nothing good could be expected from the president and the prime minister. “In a situation when the very foundations of the state were being weakened, the present leadership is simply indifferent and incapable of facing the challenges confronting the nation,” the source said, adding that the highly irresponsible attitude of the political leadership towards the May 2 debacle and their handling of serious issues like defence, terrorism and foreign relations have finally convinced Nawaz Sharif that the ruling duo is not here to do any good. “They are corrupt, incompetent and frail,” this is how the N-leadership now perceives the present rulers. It is said that with such an aloofness of the political leadership and owing to the repeated failures of defence and intelligence establishments, things could not be allowed to run in a similar fashion for another two years. According to the source, Nawaz Sharif has expressed his serious concern over the latest naval airbase attack in Karachi and sees it as an international conspiracy to which there should have been an immediate response from the government, which instead is behaving as if nothing serious has happened. Although Nawaz Sharif is now thinking of finally getting hard on the government and possibly to give a call for the removal of the present regime, the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf chief Imran Khan has just recently raised the slogan “Save Pakistan and Remove Government Movement”. Imran Khan has said that he would start the movement against the government from Lahore. He has also appealed to all the like-minded political parties to join hands with the PTI to get rid of what he called the corrupt rulers. Khan also hinted that in the final phase he would also march towards Islamabad and besiege the Parliament. About the possibility of the PML-N joining the PTI for the same cause, the PML-N leader said that it does not seem possible because of Imran Khan’s personal attacks on PML-N’s top leadership. |
