Exclamation Imran warns of divisions in Army over war on terror

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has warned of divisions in security forces if Pakistan does not isolate itself from the US war on terror.
“The recent incident of the PNS Mehran has raised many questions. I fear the attack might have been planned by some insiders, just like they did in the GHQ incident,” Imran Khan said while delivering a lecture organised by the Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman Memorial Society on “The Future of Pakistan and Our Responsibilities”. He pointed out that in the past as well, not only the GHQ incident but even the attack on former president Pervez Musharraf was also planned by the people in service which showed that resentment in the military ranks against the government’s policy for its own people who were being killed on the order of the US. Imran, demanding Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani to answer what method he had to win the ongoing war which had, in fact, broken the backbone of the country, said he was sure neither the military hierarchy nor had Zardari and Gilani any answer to the question.
“I ask Gen Kayani what will he do to win this war, how long will our Army keep fighting this war, I am sure nobody has the answer to this (question), unless Pakistan stands on its feet, we cannot win it,” said the PTI chief.
He further said that the incident of Abbottabad, which occurred very close to the military academy and tarnished the country’s image across the world had also given rise to resentment in the ranks in the military in which many servicemen had certainly realised that we were killing our own people to please the US.
“This is only benefiting the enemies of Pakistan, not us, we must come out of this war which is not ours,” said the PTI chief.
Calling for ‘direct settlements’ with the Taliban, Imran said if the US could do it in Afghanistan why we could not do it in our own country.
Imran, calling for the need of a ëhome-grown policyí to tackle the problems faced by the country, said the situation could well improve if we stopped depending upon the US. He said visas were issued to 7,000 agents of Blackwater and thousands of Raymond Davis are roaming in Pakistan freely just because the submissive attitude of the present government. He said after coming into power, the PTI would ensure that there was no US aid or US base in Pakistan while sovereignty of the country would be the top priority.
Terming the Sharifs more unreliable than Zardari, Imran said the latter never pretended to be sincere or honest but on the other hand, the leaders of PML-N had a sheer difference between their speech and action. He said the ‘Mughal emperor’ of Lahore only paid Rs 5,000 tax and how could the nation expect him to address their grievances.
Imran further taunted the PML-N Quaid, saying that all points of his (Imran) speech would be used by Nawaz in his next address, adding that the PTI was not disclosing its 90 days agenda just because the PML-N might copy it. He also said the Wikileaks had exposed the US ‘slaves’ living in Pakistan, including Zardari and the Sharifs. He also said the time for change had started now and we had to stop depending upon the US and stand as a sovereign nation.
PTI Central Secretary Information Omar Sarfaraz Cheema, Engineer Ejaz Chaudhry, Admiral (retd) Javed Iqbal, Abid Abdullah, Wasif Nagi and a large number of students were also present.
