Post Allah is sure to establish peace

Allah is sure to establish peace

By Orya Maqbool Jan

The worst misfortune of a nation is that when it becomes too much arrogant and excessively proud of its power and resources, it is unable to beg forgiveness for its sins collectively from Allah. But we are facing an even worse predicament, because not to speak of begging forgiveness for our sins collectively, we are not even able to express our sorrows collectively. Allah has deprived us of the ability to console each other at the time of sorrow, to express grief over each other's death and even to accompany each other's funeral procession to the graveyard. Hatred is the basis of their division and prejudice is the web and texture of their life. They are, therefore, naturally expected to behave in a contemptuous and prejudiced manner with others. But this type of behaviour cannot be expected from those whose great leader and guide Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) gave them a universal message of brotherhood and equality while addressing them during his last pilgrimage to Makkah. After praising Allah, he announced, “All the idols of language, race and colour belonging to the days of ignorance have been trampled under my feet. No whiteman is superior to any blackman and no Arab is superior to any non-Arab. All of you are the children of Adam, who was created from dust.”

Those who claimed to be the inheritors of Prophet Muhammad's Shariah, custodians of his sayings and lovers of the members of his family, did not indulge in divisions on the basis of whites and blacks, Arabs and non-Arabs. But they surely highlighted and exaggerated their prejudices based on beliefs and sects to such an extent that they completely forgot the noble example set by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) when he stood up as a mark of respect for the funeral of a Jewish woman. Has a Sunni scholar along with his disciples ever attended the funeral of a murdered Shia scholar? Have Shia scholars ever instructed their followers to attend the funeral of a brutally murdered Sunni scholar, just as they attend their own religious gatherings known as Majalis?

There are millions and millions of people who claim to be the staunch believers in the Unity of Allah, enthusiastic lovers of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and ardent devotees of the members of his family. But none of them ever displays the exalted moral spirit by attending the funeral of someone belonging to some other sect. On the contrary, in their private gatherings, members of each sect refer to their own dead as martyrs and those of other sects as occupants of hell.

Ethnic, racial, linguistic and other such prejudices are something else. The first and foremost dispute of people having such prejudices is for the sake of a piece of land, which they describe as their own territory, their own country and their own motherland. The presence of people belonging to other races, colours and languages on their land is regarded by them as desecration of their dear homeland. They confine themselves to narrow strips of land in their countries, provinces, districts and even towns and cities. If someone having some other colour, race or language attempts to settle in any such segregated and isolated piece of land, first of all, he is looked at with amazement, and then, he becomes the object of a particular type of contempt. Some vulgar jokes are concocted for disgracing and humiliating him. His life style, accent and even language are ridiculed. The most ignoble and most inhuman aspect of this hatred is that the prejudiced people in that area regard their own women as civilized and those of the settlers as symbols of sexual perversion. If somehow or the other, this shameful hatred flares up in the form of violence leading to the murder of somebody, all the residents of that area unanimously agree that they must purge their territory and motherland of the dirty presence of settlers. They swear by their land and sing songs in its praise. But historical evidence proves beyond any doubt that among all relationships, man’s relation with his motherland is the weakest. It is a purely materialistic relationship and history bears ample testimony to the fact that man cursed his native land when it failed to provide him drinking water, when it was turned into a desert and when animals could not get their fodder. All the mass migrations recorded in history were triggered by some material benefit or materialistic relationship. When the lush green region of Africa turned into a desert, its inhabitants spread far and wide in the world. When life became difficult in Asia Minor, Aryans occupied the homelands and territories of others. Today, our Subcontinent is inhabited by a wide variety of people such as Rajputs, Jats, Arain, Punjabis, Sindhis, Pathans, Urdu speakers and several others. The only thing that is common among them is that the ancestors of all of them had come to this part of the world, after cursing their own native lands, when they failed to provide them with sufficient means of living. When instead of giving peace and comfort, this mother produced natural calamities, earthquakes, floods, storms, famines and poverty, none of her sons could continue his relationship with her. Allah Himself has negated the concept of treating one's land as a mother by saying, “The whole earth belongs to Allah.” No one except Allah can claim to be the real owner of this earth. Allah has also stated that the entire creation is His family. But we are strange people, because we have divided Allah's earth as well as the members of His family.

Wherever this type of division exists, it is the product of the lies continuously told by writers, poets and intellectuals in their false and fabricated stories and poems, aimed at giving sanctity and sacredness to man's relationship with his homeland. Inspired by such false notions, people are always ready to shed blood for the sake of their land, which they consider to be only theirs, eversince its creation. The Baluch people arrived here and started living about a thousand years ago, but they try to establish their link with the civilization of Mehargarh that existed seven thousand years ago. In the same way, the Punjabis and Sindhis, who are the descendants of Aryans, try to relate themselves with the Indus Valley Civilization, which they themselves had destroyed, ravaged and ruined. Harappa of Punjab and Moenjodaro of Sind present the horrifying images of their brutality and savagery. But even then, for centuries, those who occupied this land by force have been describing it as their own land and killing one another for its sake. It is very much possible that in the times to come, some other nations may settle here, or this land may be turned into a desert on account of climatic changes. In such a case, this love story may be written in some other way. If developed countries of the world open their gates for us, the number of people who would like to stay back in their motherland would be much smaller than the number of those who would settle abroad, giving no consideration to their relationship with their land. Despite such grim realities, for years and years, we have been fighting and shedding blood for the sake of this land, writing poems in praise of our martyrs and dispatching the dead people of others to Hell. When nations are on the verge of complete destruction, the plant of hatred in them becomes so deep rooted in their hearts that even the members of small families start slaughtering each other. In such a situation, that Divine Law comes into force which has been mentioned in the Quran. According to it, peace is restored on earth by Allah when cruel people kill one another. Since ages, this land of ours has been in search of peace. Allah gave us much respite and relaxation, but we were never earnestly desirous of peace.
