@Lord Avalon
No one can be trusted.. :nono

Most of the viruses these days are launched by anti-virus companies. Ager nae virus nhi aien gae to anti-virus k nae version kon khariday ga? They know where to fail previous versions to raise a need for newer ones.

All the anti viruses are to be updated daily and it would only be possible if a user is using a registered version. If the software is already bought then a person doesn’t have to waste his money for such updates in the virus database, which are aimed at providing resistance for the newly launched viruses. Secondly, I don’t think so that such companies would hide viruses in the download packages as if any such site is reported then it’s marked “Untrustable” by Microsoft IE. I liked your policy of trust no one, but at the same time absence proper anti virus and firewall will make the system a hot spot for viruses and telnet invasions.

I think this is not what I said. First of all I was not giving a policy. Secondly I myself use anti-virus and I nowhere said that you don't need to use one. Thirdly I was not talking about daily updates but the new version that are mostly launched annually.

I don't know whether you have a Computer Science background or not. Anyhow let me elaborate a bit. I was referring to logic bombs and trap doors. Logic bombs that are triggered by a date or event are most common form of viruses that the service providers use in order to raise need for switching to the newer versions. Trap doors are another example here. No one knows the package better then who created it. They are in ultimate control. You just have some files and features. Even MS is suspected in this regard!

I haven't experienced any viruses within the download package but what I was to convey is, mostly anti-virus companies are the originators of viruses. This is the business they are in! Software are expensive and writing sophisticated programs(viruses) that fail the entire software packages (OS, anti-virus etc) is not something that a person sitting somewhere is doing or can do for fun or adventure.

Moreover as you yourself mentioned if it is reported, so what if it isn't? Nothing is ultimate in Computer World. We have techniques then counter-techniques then counter-counter-techniques then counter-counter-counter-techniques and it goes on :)). Google will certianly use a program to identify such virusus but what if they can by-pass that program?

I wasn't negating what anyone else said that was just for others' awareness. :))

Thank you so much for the knowledge you provided but I am still not sure as to why were you referring to the “Logic bomb” or “back door”. Do they have anything to do with a simple anti virus download?
According to my “limited” knowledge about computer science viruses need a host program to run on and the purpose of anti virus is simply to detect a sequence line; be it of a virus or any other malicious software. Logic bomb is something different, even entirely different thing. More like a corporate threat rather than a virus, which has to be installed in a system and through out its history, the people who in one way or other had the access to the system, they installed it. So I don’t think so anyone has to worry about being invaded by a logic bomb while downloading a trial version of AVG or Kaspersky. Again, back door is used to bypass the normal authentication process so I don't see any point in installing such back doors on millions of subscribers by a company.

Both can be used to create problems on customer machines as and when required.. Isay meri networking ke Ma'am asay explain krti hain "Jub naya version anay wala hota hai to pichla problem shoro ker deta hai"..
Logic bomb can be triggered by a date event so becomes relevant here. Trap-doors unless until initiated goes undetected! See unauthorized access within itself is nothing. jub koi ap k system pe unauthorized access lae ga to kis purpose k leay he lae ga. And this can be one..

They don't have anything to do with simple downloads but they can be part of the entire packages.
