Computer viruses are very common in these days and they affect computers very badly. They can destroy software as well as hardware so be careful.

The problem you discussed can be due to software failure or hardware glitch.

Scan your computer again with good antivirus software if it doesn’t works then reinstall operating system again.

Always keep the backup of your data outside the computer.

If you have an extra USB or hard disk then you can store your important data there.
Nowadays more viruses enter in system through USB. Always turn off autorun option of drives and don't try to open USB directly. It will keep viruses away from your system.

Try running your computer in safe mode. If it reboots even in safe mode, the problem is not with software but maybe a virus attack.

Quote:
Computer viruses such as the blaster virus are written to reboot your computer without warning. Usually these viruses will make the computer reboot ever 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes after the computer has booted.

If you believe your computer may be infected with a virus or are uncertain if your computer is infected with a virus make sure your virus scanner definitions are up to date.
Do you have an up-to-date antivirus? What is your antivirus? Is it a free version or licensed?

Regards

Sudden turning off of the computer (i.e. like someone has pressed the reset button on the CPU) is more probably due to power breakage than virus attack (a virus forced shutdown is usually more like a proper shutdown but without your command or a shutdown with an error , it will show logging off and windows is shutting down screens, or it may show a blue screen and turn off, if the shut down is forced by a malicious program ). Check if your computer's power supply and all the cables are ok, and there is no WAPDA problem in your area (like sudden voltage drops) . Try disassembling and reassembling the CPU. Use a voltage stabilizer, if you are not already using one.

Sir; in my 11 years experience with computers, I have never ever seen a virus destroy a hardware device, but they do ruin the software though . Hardware is usually ruined by more physical causes, like voltage hikes, intentional destroying or breaking by humans, using it beyond its supposed expiry date or some manufacturing glitch in the device etc. However viruses can ruin driver programs, software which enables communication between the OS and the physical device.

format your windows and try to install os i,e xp or 7 with a new virus free bootable disk......now a days pirate copies of cds are available in the market it is better to scan bootable disk after having installed a new os....after you have done you only have to access c drive keep in mind do not click on other drives as d e f etc until and unless you do not have a up to date antivirus installed.....if you have dsl connection you can download any of the antivirus available on internet better to download avg or avira and install them on c drive and update them before scanning ......after done scan full computer.....if the problem persist then it may be heat problem or hardware

try to format your drives in ntfs system it keep your files when your pc suddenl restarts or power outages

There are many kinds of viruses; most of the viruses affect the software but there are some viruses that can damage the hard ware by turning fast destroying it. Others can turn off the fans to make the cpu overheat. Bad sectors, bad clusters are enough to destroy hard disk.

CIH, also known as Chernobyl or Spacefiller, is a Microsoft Windows computer virus written by Chen Ing Hau (, pinyin: Chén Yíngháo) of Taiwan. It is one of the most damaging viruses, overwriting critical information on infected system drives, and more importantly, in some cases corrupting the system BIOS.

In September 1998, Yamaha shipped a firmware update to their CD-R400 drives that was infected with the virus. In October 1998, a demo version of the Activision game SiN was infected by one of its mirror sites.[1] In March 1999, several thousand IBM Aptivas shipped with the CIH virus,[2] just one month before the virus would trigger.
CIH's dual payload was delivered for the first time on April 26, 1999, with most of the damage occurring in Asia. CIH filled the first 1024 KB of the host's boot drive with zeros and then attacked certain types of BIOS. Both of these payloads served to render the host computer inoperable, and for laymen the virus essentially destroyed the PC.

Sir; yeh sab data overwriting operations hain, is se hardware jalta nahin hai. Hardware jalne kaa matlab hai hardware kharab ho jaaye aur aap ko naya lena pare. yeh jin cheezoon kaa aap ne zikir kiya hai in se aap kaa qeemti data to mutasir hoga, laikin aap ko nayi hard drive yaa naya hardware device nahin lena pare gaa. Hope you understand what I mean to say . virus aap kee hard drive ke file system ko corrupt kar sakta hai jis se aap ko us ko dobara format karna par jaata hai, laikin virus kabhi bhi aap ke hard drive main physical bad sectors nahin laa sakta jis se aap ko nayi hard drive leni pare (yaa shayad behad behad rare casses main lata bhi ho, laikin woh bhi tab jab aap kee hard drive main koi manufacturing fault ho aur read write operations se us main bad sectors aa jaate hoon, aisi soorat main virus to kiya MS-DOS bhi us main bad sectors laa sakta hai ).

Doosre lafzoon main, virus kee waja se aap ko naya computer lene kee nobat nahin aaye gee, baqi safai karni par sakti hai aur data loss kaa khatra hamesha rehta hai .
