I saw an option of AIM in my gmail account as well as here on forum,some members added it for contact.

Kindly tell me what exactly it is for? .What is the way to use it?

It is a chatting/instant messaging service just like Yahoo or MSN. AIM stands for Aol Instant Messenger. It is one of the oldest instant messaging software and was widely used in late 1990s and 2000s. It had 52% market share in 2006 which has collapsed to 0.73% only in 2011.

Once you download/install it, you can use it just like any other instant messenger.
