As an optional subject, English Literature had been a punishing subject before 2016 syllabus revision. Lets see, how will it be in CE-2016, nothing can be said about it now. It can be helpful in improving language (in case if weak).

Take a look at the syllabus of both.
A friend of mine is a gold medalist in literature from N.U.M.L.
He's not taking literature in CE-16.
Because the syllabus is too lengthy.
Plus the novels/poems/dramas he read in his masters are not in the CSS syllabus. Which means a long boring & tedious process of Reading and making notes
Literature syllabus is quite long, no matter how good you are in it. It stops you from paying attention to other subjects. For a petty 100 mark.

P.S: I love literature and had opted it for like 2 months. But now I have dumped it for environmental science. :p

I want to do M.A Literature only because of improving my language. In addition to this, i have keen interest in literature.

Literature has nothing to do with improving English.
If you love literature, go for it. But don't go thinking it'll improve your English.I've seen people with masters in English with English that makes me want to burn my ears..
All the Best, Buddy

dear, i have an extremely mind bowing idea for you. if you really want to do ma English for improving your language efficiency, then you should do it in linguistics rather than in literature. by doing this, you will study literature in the first two semesters and linguistics subjects in the next two semesters. i mean you will have the taste of both in one thing and i assure you that after doing this CSS will become a piece of cake for you. it is my experience and analysis that those candidates get though IN css who have strong English background no matter what their subjects are, so i think it is a good choice for you.

i have also done ma English in lit and now doing in linguistics from Karachi university. it has really helped me in all departments of my language skills.
