Propht Moses (P.B.U.H.) once came across a person, who was in the worst condition possible. He had nothing to even clothe himself. A thin layer of sand had been on him to serve as his covering. He asked the Prophet why Allah Almighty had not given him anything? And what should he do to get rid of this miserable condition? The Prophet promised to ask Allah Almighty about it and left. In the city, Prophet Moses (P.B.U.H.) saw a rich person who was giving and distributing open-heartedly his riches to the poor lot. He came to the Prophet and said that the more he spent in the way of Allah the more he got richer. He said he did not want to be such rich, as to be rich is sometimes a curse. He inquired what should he do to get rid of this situation? The Prophet promised to ask Allah Almighty about it.
And as the Prophet put forth the questions of both persons in front of Allah Almighty, He replied to ask the first person to be thankful to Allah and the second person to not to. The Prophet returned to the first person and said that he must thank Allah for his blessings. The person got angry and said what is there to thank? He had nothing. And with the wind, the only cover he had, the sand, was also removed from his body. The Prophet returned to the city and told the rich person to stop thanking Allah. He replied why should I not thank Allah when He has given everything that I could think of and has made me rich and has bestowed all riches of the world imaginable? He thanked Allah even more. And Allah blessed him with even more riches.
We as a nation have become like the first person. We can not see what Allah almighty has bestowed to us but can only complain what others have and we don't. Both on individual and collective levels, our mindset is like such. Rich are trying to be richer and poor envious of them, despise them. No one looks at the people in condition worst than their's.
