Islam Invite to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided." Holy Qur'an 16:125 |

Status Of Parents In Islam
It is very important to be kind to your parents, talk to them in a polite and respectful manner and being there for them when they need you the most. Disobeying them may lead you to hell.
Allah(swt) said in the quran-e-paak "Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents." (31:14) “We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents.” (46:15) "We have enjoined on man and woman (to be good) to his/her parents; show gratitude to Me and to thy parents; to Me is (thy final) Goal. If they (parents) strive to make thee join in worship with Me things of which thou hast no knowledge, obey them not; yet bear them company in this life with justice (and consideration) and follow the way of those who turn to Me (in love)" (31:14-15). “Be kind to your parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honor. And out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility and say: “My Lord! Bestow on them thy mercy even as they cherished me in childhood.” (17:23 – 24) “Treat with kindness your parents and kindred and orphans and those in need.” (2:83) Among the parents, the status of the mother is three times higher than that of the father. Quran says “In travail upon travail did his mother bear him, and in years twain was his weaning.” (31 :14) The prophet greatly stressed mothers’ rights by saying “Heaven is beneath the feet of mothers.” Prophet Mohamad(pbuh) said: ''Every time a dutiful child looks with affection and respect towards his/her parents, God writes the reward of an approved Hajj (Pilgrimage) on behalf of that person.” A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet said: Your mother. The man said, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man further asked, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man asked again, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your father. (Bukhari, Muslim). The Prophet said that the most heinous sins of the world are: To associate partners with Allah. To disobey parents. To give false evidence. Also, Propeht Mohamad(pbuh) said: ''God's pleasure is in the pleasure of the father, and God's displeasure is in the displeasure of the father." "He who wishes to enter Paradise through its best door must please his parents." "It is a pity that some people may not attain Paradise, on account of not serving their old parents." "If a person looks with love at his parents, God writes in his favor the reward equal to the performance of one Hajj." [Someone asked, "will this promise be good if one looks at his parents one hundred times a day?" The Holy Prophet (pbuh) replied, "even if one does so a hundred thousand times a day, God gives the reward accordingly."] "A man or woman is bound to be good to his or her parents, even though they may have injured him or her." Hazrat Ali (A.S.) that, "disobedience to parents is a major sin." He also stated that, "if a person looks at the face of his or her parents with wrathful eyes, despite the fact that injustice was done to him or her by the parents, his or her salah (prayer) will not be accepted by God." Haroon, in order to go to jannat, one needs to please his/her parents. You should not disobey them since it is a major sin and like I mentioned before, even if you look at your parents with ''wrathful eyes'' then your prayers will not be accepted by Allah(swt) [even though it was them who treated you unustly]. So you should do good to them, even though they might now always do good to you. "Your Lord has decreed that you shall not worship except Him, and your parents shall be honored. As long as one or both of them live, you shall never say to them, "Uff" (the slightest gesture of annoyance), nor shall you shout at them; you shall treat them amicably. And lower for them the wings of humility, and kindness, and say, "My Lord, have mercy on them, for they have raised me from infancy." (17:23-24) Prophet Muhammad is reported to have said: "On the Day of Judgment, my person will not be seen by those who drank liquor, those who on hearing my name did not invoke the blessings of God on me, or those who were cursed and disowned by their parents." However, you don't have to obey them if they associate anyone else with Allah(swt) and are unbelievers But if they strive with you to associate with Me that which you have no knowledge, then obey them not; Yet bear them company in this life in a recognized manner. And follow the way of those who turn to Me. In the end the return of you all is to Me, and I will tell you the truth of all you did." (31:15) |
