'Lakh' is not a pure English word. Its a word from our local dialects. In English language, the equivalent of 'Lakh' is 'Lac' pronounced as 'Lake'. The quantitative value remains same i.e 100,000 (One hundred thousands).
Dear the correct pronunciation for LAC is not LAKE but Lack

Thanks for your consideration but I would rather concede to the views of Raz here. You normally don't use Million with the figures that are less than a Million and in that case you simply use Thousands or Hundred Thousands.

Cheers!

''Lakh and 'Lac both words are used.

Zohaib Baloch is right.

I think it is better to use hundred thousand then to get stuck in either to put the spelling of lakh in '' Lac '' ''Lake '' or Lack etc.

The unit "lakh" is South Asian/Central Asian and it has nothing to do with the English language. Don't use it while talking in English.

The English equivalent for the Urdu word "lakh" is "one hundred thousand".

Therefore, 796096 square kilometers is said like so:

Seven hundred and ninety six thousand and ninety six square kilometers

or preferably:

Seven ninety six thousand and ninety six kilometers squared.
