@Sea Warrior!
Both the units of Pakistan, Military and Civil Services are equally important: Military for strategic defense and Civil section for governmental planning, policies and management with a larger scope. Hailing from a mixed armed forces and civil background, I hope I can give you some quick glimpses on both the above mentioned sections. Regardless of any case, one should understand the relationship between power and prestige. If you have power, only the people who are your subordinates will give you respect, and the moment you will leave the position, they won't ever call you back! If you have prestige, you already enjoy power: of goodwill and word! Most importantly, It is very sad that the majority of the people are applying for CSS for power: AND THEY ARE THE PEOPLE WHO FAIL IN BUNDLE! Quick answer is: Civil life has many sections of work. The people who get their recruitment through general means always work under the CSPs. CPSs are the people who get jobs through CSS. They have a good and secure 30-35 years of work schedule: most of them reach to as high as 20-21 grades. My father ended up as a Joint Secretary (BPS-20) and enjoyed immense prestige. On the other, while knowing the military men by very near, I know most of them reach to the level next to the colonel: get less pay, their children study in second class military owned schools (By the way, all military managed schools are second class without any doubt: Fazaia, Army Public School, whereby Bahria College and Burn Hall are two exceptions), they are always under pressure, the charm of the uniform fades away very soon you move up from grade 17 to 18 (from Captain to Major), enjoy absolutely no social prestige, you have your own little community of armed forces with almost illiterate wifes and their ever increasing unfulfilled demands, this is the reason why these ladies face psychological feeling of complex when they meet ladies of Ambassadors, Commissioners, Joint Secretaries, and IGPs, and then they have own little gatherings in old messes and get retired eventually by the age of 50-55 (Not everyone gets through the rank of general after all) While the ultimate benefit of becoming a CSP is that you enjoy the most of your life with the cream of the country, your friends are literate, sharp, updated and of high caliber and class. When a 50 years old military man runs around Fauji Foundation to get a job after being super-ceded or his retirement with a copy of his CV in hands to feed his college going children, a same aged CSP enjoys his evenings in Islamabad Club playing golf and planning actively for the betterment of the country (and TRUST ME! They do work really hard, its all our incapable ministers who always sideline their awesome projects for minute lustful profits) In the end, I will suggest you to please forget about prioritizing the works on the basis of getting power. Focus on where you can work better. If you are power hungry, follow the footsteps of Mafia, civil service or military is not for you. Or if really want to serve the country: 1. Join Military with an immense passion of being a martyr while saving your country 2. Join as a CSP and work day and night, sacrificing your family and personal time & the Success will follow your lead: TRUST ME! Good Luck

First of all kindly be realist, there is no tension free life . Secondly go whereever you get peace of mind. Ask from yourself what do you want. Meet some serving civil servants in different cadres to know their life. However, if you want to make a try for CSS, then work hard and run for your slot. Its open competition and it is better to give a try. You can also try to use Military quota to be a CSP. Try to get knowledge of this way through your HQ. Good luck. Regards

But do bureaucrats of,say,grade 20 really can enjoy with only pay of around 1lac20thousand? i mean is there extra legitimate money alongwith pay a bureacrat get??
and what about political pressure he faces in DMG or PSP. What if he gets posted in remote areas just because of the reason that he refused an illegitimate order of scumbag minister? i guess military officers dont face this problem. And what about privileges after retirement? A colonel gets a bungalow of worth 4,5 crore after retirement,does a 20 grade officer get this type of remuneration?? |
