Guzaaray hain jo rattjagay woh kis
Kis muqaam mai jaa basay
Kabhi zard rutton say bhi poochna
Keh patton kay chatakhnay say jo siskiyaan si goonjti theen
Woh kab, kahaan, kis pal, hijr say jaa mileen
Woh jo aas ki pazmurda si shaakh thi
Woh kis nokeelay khuwaab kay baar say jaa jhuki
Kabhi zard ruton say bhi poochna
Kay hawaa-e-dasht ki sarsaraahat
Mai kaifiyyat-e-bahaar thi, woh kis pal
Dasht-e-sansanaahat mai dhal gaee
Woh jawaar-e-manzil say jo lurrhaktay
Sisaktay musaafir thay aakhir woh kis
Panaah-gaah mai jaa chuppay
Woh jo fasl-e-gul ki mehdood-o-masdood si kalyaan theen
Woh kis khizaan mai badal gaeen
Kabhi zard ruton say bhi poochna
Keh intezaar kay Dastay naag ka taryaaq hay kiya?
Neend say bojhal band aankhon mai dard ki chubbhan si hay kiya?
Aur kabhi fursat milay to khud say bhi poochna
Keh muhabbat aur nafrat kay maabain muslehat
Ki chaader hay kiya?
Haan kabhi zard ruton ki ot mai khud say bhi poochna
Kabhi zard ruton say bhi poochna
