globalisation and its discontents
joseph stiglitz book is amazing. as he was the vice president of the world bank and a nobel laureate economist, we have to take his words at face value.
I am almost done reading it. I have been able to get a full view of how the IMF's policies went wrong in the countries that it gave loans to. the book is a real, and yet sad, account of the countries that went with the IMF's directives and were doomed.
it also has a lesson for the pakistani government. I am not sure if you know that but kind of economics we are pursuing these days is the one that is advocated by the IMF. no wonder, then, that we are having the same type of results; increasing GDP at the expense of the poor.
for people who do not think the so called "trickle down effect" or Washington consensus works, this book is a nice guide. it is also recommended for general reading.
