Indian PM invites Zardari, Gilani to watch semi-final

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh extended an invitation to Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to watch the semi-final of the cricket World Cup between Pakistan and India in Mohali, on Friday.

According to Indian news channel IBN-Live, the Indian prime minister will be watching the match between the two countries in Mohali.

The foreign office has confirmed that Pakistan has received the invitation from Singh and that no decision had been made on whether to accept the invitation.

“There is huge excitement over the match and we are all looking forward to a great game of cricket, that will be a victory for sport,” Singh wrote in a letter to Zardari, according to a government statement.

“It gives me great pleasure to invite you to visit Mohali and join me and the millions of fans from our two countries to watch the match.

Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Asma Jehangir has appreciated the invitation extended by Singh

This is a very positive step for the people of India and Pakistan. Pakistani citizens are also very positive about the match.

Pakistan and India will face off in their semi-final match on March 30.

Special buses from Wagah border

Special buses are likely to be arranged to take Pakistani fans from Wagah to Mohali for the match, according to Times Now.

Buses are expected to utilise the Wagah to Chandigarh and Wagah to Amritsar routes.

India has issued 5,000 visas to Pakistanis to facilitate their visit to India for the World Cup matches, including the final in Mumbai.

Sources say, in the wake of India-Pakistan clash, there is no possibility of issuing fresh visas to Pakistani fan as anyone wishing to apply for a visa will have to undergo the normal application procedure, which takes at least a month to be processed. Tickets have been sold out and no visa applications are being entertained without a copy of the ticket.

I think PM will go there. It is a positive aspect, and presence of our Head will encourage our players.

Very good initiative. PM must go and support the team.

Good to see that Cricket brought both countries a bit closer
