I agree with the exaggerating part. However, I do disagree with the fact that the passing mark would be anywhere below 80-85 in any region.

For one, take for example the number of people who applied for the position. It is estimated that over 40,000 people applied. It is very highly likely that the top 1000 scored more than 80 marks; some of those got filtered by regional quota and only the top 600 appeared on the list.

Secondly, take many examples from the speculation from people on this forum. Those who expected 75 marks ~ did not pass the test (myself included). Those who realistically expected 85-90 marks (right after the test, and then recently), passed the test.

From the evidence that we have, or lack thereof, unfortunately, we can conclude that 80+ is the bare minimum to pass, and 85 is a realistic 'pass'.

Anything anyone says otherwise is mere hopefulness, which I agree is great to hold on to, but reality only strikes hardest when you do.

I agree with the content analysis. Cut off merit is based on numerous factors and we normally ignore them.

1. You can be sure about your performance only. You can compare the level of your preparation and the level of difficulty of the paper. If it is from the popular books and materials then it would be attempted good by a number of people and if it is difficult like some unprecedented questions including dates then it is not a piece of cake even for competent and prepared contenders.

2. Cut-off varies paper to paper, region and depends on the number of seats.

3. No one knows the policy of FPSC when the paper is conducted in different batches.

4. If there are large numbers of seat then 80+ is hopeful zone and 85+ is safe zone. On the contrary if seats are few, like 10 or less then 85+ is hopeful zone and 90+ is safe zone, for the satisfaction of one’s own self however nothing is sure. Besides if paper is really difficult then cutoff could be drop down to 75 or even 70.

5. Those who expect remained with the expectations rather afraid to confirm but everybody knows that how he had performed.

6. Sometimes the paper is really easy that 70 questions are so easy, 10 only for well prepared and remaining 20 really hard even for well prepared and competent person, there “Tukka” and luck factor will decide. This is what I believe happened in the triplets of the FBR/Customs papers.

7. On this prestigious forum, only a small proportion of the applicants discuss the papers, however the safe way is to consider the expected marks of the reputed members who are equally competent.

To analyze the cut off merit is a whole science. The only thing is that give your best shot and rest leave to ALLAH Almighty. If it is in your fate then it’s all yours even if you had performed badly, to the extent you think. Paper is composition of different subjects and factors and you never know that when and which factor could favour you. In the end, Always be thankful to ALLAH, whatever happens is for one’s own good but one will realize with due course of time. It is not like that one is incompetent rather it is not the right time.

Stay bless, be concentrated and devoted to your goal, never lose hope and In’sha’ALLAH you will be rewarded for your efforts, patience and believe in ALLAH.

May ALLAH bless us all with success. Ameen

P.S: whatever I said is based on my personal experiences and analysis. It means no offence to any respected member and thus not intended to indulge in any type of arguments.

Regards

"If", in reality, the highest marks obtained by any Sindh Urban candidate is between 65 to 70, then 65 marks will actually be the merit criteria, no matter how many candidates appear and no matter if, in Punjab, people obtained more than 90 marks. That is called quota-based system and FPSC is bound to adhere to it.

having qualified test and silently observing in depth and realistic appraisals by other noteworthy members. I would sum up my experience of triple tests of FBR in following terse words. Crucial Factors responsible for or against in being shortlisted.

1- Toughness of paper
2- region one belongs to (Domicile)
3- timing of test (Not in period of stress, problem or other business)
4- 2nd most important factor, Your preparedness at exactly those days of test.
5- 1st most important factor, Luck and Tukka

Factor 4 and 5 are game changer and fate destroyer.

Lesson learnt : No words are enough to assuage you. You are left with only option to stand up and strike harder in next opportunities.

For many of us, it's just a matter of couple of tukkas getting here or there. It does not mean that preparation is not necessary, hard work is obviously the first thing, the point is that the competition is very tough.
