Smile Tips & Tricks to get you through 4 months training period in NON-GD Course

I am willing to help all those who have been selected and made it to the final selection in Non-GD course. I have come back to this forum after almost 2 years and still see many candidates who didn't have any first-hand information about life and training at academy. I am a primary source of information and ready to help you all. Please stick to the forum rules and refrain from asking phone numbers or email address, any question relevant to the subject should be posted in open group discussion so it may reach maximum audience.

Start shooting your questions and I will try and answer everyone whenever I find time. Take care & all the best

P.S: I can openly bet to those who get selected that if they pay attention to my advice, their training period in academy will turn into a honeymoon period.

Sir We all in this discussion have gone through second board interview now waiting for final selection. The course joining date has been extended from 12 Oct to 1st Nov. I would ask about the first week I entry and routine of the Non GD's primarily to start the discussion.

Smile Week 1 in academy

Usually your daily routine will be in the hands of your seniors during 1st week as class room training starts after 3 or 4 days from date of joining.

There are 4 squadrons in academy and you all will be divided into different squadrons as per the academy discretion on the very 1st day. Each squadron has a separate building & a separate conducting (person responsible to teach you about academy rules). These conducting are junior to your age as they are from regular course but senior to you as they came into academy earlier.

Let's say there are total 40 candidates selected in this course so you might be divided into a group of 10 each in 4 different squadrons. Rooms in academy are on twin sharing basis but some rooms are big enough to accommodate 4 persons. It doesn't really matter which room you get as you would have no say in this either.

DAY 1 - You will be asked to report early around 8 am in your call letter.
MY ADVICE: DON'T DO IT, report as much late on the day as possible. A safe bet would be around 5 to 6 pm.

DO NOT CARRY EXTRA LUGGAGE as you might be asked to lift it over your head and march towards your room from the entrance gate. It is around 1.5 km distance so better be prepared for this. No need to carry a bag with wheels as they are much heavier and in any case you can be asked to lift it. It all depends on the mood of your conducting.

Get yourself prepared to hear loud voices and screams very close to your ears as this is the only weapon your seniors are permitted to use in front of you, so don't get afraid when they shout.
MY ADVICE: ENJOY IT, you know how much energy one consumes when they shout.? Just let them do it.

Do not overburden yourself physically as well as mentally, you know your body well enough more than anyone else so do whatever you can and with in your capacity.
MY ADVICE: if you have a body stamina to carry out 15 push-ups, better do 10 properly. Save your energy as you need to last for 4 months.

This is it for now and I will definitely come up with more some time later in the day or tomorrow

Dear Sir, please tell us that what is the duration of service for SSC.
Also tell us that is there any difference in training of PC and SSC, other than that PC training is for long duration.

This is it for now and I will definitely come up with more some time later in the day or tomorrow

If you want me to sum up in one line or 1 word about 4 months training in academy, i will call it a 'well-scripted DRAMA'. Yes it's unreal and not related to your life in paf. It may sound little awkward right now but once you are through, you will understand it. The only purpose of telling this right now is not to take it seriously.

It's not what is expected out of you to deliver or conform to once you are done with this 4 month training. To teach you about the rules & regulations in this short time, they have devised this training drama. You will get to know about the certain norms & behavior expected out of you and most importantly how to train your brain defensively in taking orders.

Anyway coming back to week 1, you must carry some good pair of woolen socks (sportswear). They will take care of your feet when you start wearing DMS & MOs (long shoes you need to wear for 4 months during training and parade). Any new shoe can be troublesome but specially when you start wearing military shoes, you will feel a lot more uncomfortable until the leather gets old and soft as per your liking.

You may also want to carry knee & elbow pads in your luggage if you feel your muscle joints are not strong enough or fast enough to acclimatize to physical cumbersome exercise. But do not worry too much about all this physical part of training beforehand. As I said it is more of a mental part which you need to focus on. This is all drama and you will get through irrespective of your physical health. So be mentally strong and happily face the music.

You have all been selected and sent for training after a long induction process and each one of you is important for them to complete the training and join your respective branch. No one has the power during this 4 month time period to send you back home, no one but you. They will tell you lies that if you don't do this or that, they will report you to some other senior person or put you in cell. This is all mental harassment and nothing else. Just do whatever you can and do not over exert. In fact you are the one's who have all the powers, so report anyone if you feel you are being undone by someone excessively. You can report any senior to your classroom instructor, they are the one's to approach in case of any problem and they will facilitate you. You can always ask to visit a doctor if you have any illness or pain, this is your right and no one can stop you and if they do then you know now what action needs to be taken.

List of Important Items to Carry: minimum 3 extra pair of white trousers/shirts, 3/4 Pair of woolen socks, iron, cleaning cloth for dusting, wallet, bundle of foolscap sheets, steel ruler, paper cutter.

I have only listed those that you will require immediately, other things which you will be told by seniors you can get from tuc shop. Just give a list to your batman (chaachu) and he will bring them over. Again no need to worry about anything, even if you go empty handed on reporting date they will still welcome you, they are bound to at least

Your service bond for SSC is of 5 years once you wear the ranks i.e. from your passing out day. During training, you are a free bird and under no obligation. This bond is extended automatically after 3.5 or 4 years of service.

There is no difference in training for SSC or PC, they are same and for the same duration.
