It was tricky, not straight. Electrons flow from higher level of potential to lower. It is a convention that higher level is marked positive at batteries although there is excess of negative charge. So electrons actually flow from positive terminal of car battery. The negative terminal is attached to the chassis (car body).

Electrons, in actuality, flow from negative to the positive terminal. It's the current (conventional flow) that is designated as having the direction from positive to the negative terminal.
