Women Empowerment Condition in Pakistan
No doubt, women are integral part of the societies. No society can survive without women. Women’s contributions cannot be undermined as a key player of the society. As a mother, as a wife, as a sister, as a daughter and as professional women play their parts for the proper functioning and normalization of the society. History bear witness that, those nations who empowered women and ensured provision of their rights, made their places in the world. These nations are known as developed nations. Although Pakistan has been struggling for empowerment of women since its inception, women could not succeed to empower them completely. Moreover, though large numbers of laws have been formulated, but they are not enacted in true spirit. These laws could not provide security, protection, gender equality and basic human rights insurance to women. Women are in deplorable condition in Pakistan. They are considered secondary citizens. They are not treated equally as that of man. They are killed, rapped, sexually abused, harassed and bounded in the wall of houses. They are not allowed to seek education. They are made victim of domestic violence. They are forced to marriage to men of not their choices. They are forced to act upon the orders of the men and in-laws. They are restricted not to earn their livelihood and support their families financially. They are exchange for the compensation of the disputes and conflicts and awful customs. They are used as commodity to sale for the financial gain. They are burnt alive as domestic violence and disobedience to in-laws. They are suffering from malnutrition.
The above mentioned ill-treatments and atrocities are rampant in various segment of Pakistan, especially in rural areas of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Baluchistan and Punjab. Misconception of teachings of Islam, male-domination in society, traditions, customary practices, ignorance and tribal system are the key players contributing to violence against women. Deliberate murder of Rimsha Wasan by the right-hand-men of landlord Manzoor Wasan in act of Karokari, death of Shama Khoso owing to demotic violence, brutal murder and rape of Zainab in Kasur, barbaric murder and rape of Asma in Murdan, murder attack on Khadijah in Lahore are the lucid examples of inhuman acts of victimizing women. Moreover, a case was logged by the Police in Umerkot where two sister in pretext of visiting doctors reached Police Station. They pleased the police that they were forced to marriage by their parents and were not happy with their husbands. The Police apprehended their husbands and their husbands claimed that they paid 0.5 million for each girl for marrying with them to their parents. |
