Question Really ambitious but it feels like I am drifting away..

Respected fellows,
After reading the posts and honest guide from seniors, I feel like I am in the right place t ask about my problem. I am an Engineer, currently employed for the last 8 months. It's always been my dream to be a CSP. Wherever I see some thing motivational or inspiring, it always inspires me to achieve my one and only goal of CSS. I wanted to start CSS preparation right after my graduation in 2014 but due to some family problem, I couldn't. Now I intend to start preparation from SEPTEMBER. But the problem is that now I am unable to concentrate on any subject/book/reading for more than 5-10 minutes. It feels like I've forgotten how to study. It really worries me a lot as my life's sole purpose has been CSS and it feels worthless if I am unable to qualify. Whenever I think about CSS, adrenaline rush gets me and feels like it's the only purpose of my life. Kindly guide seniors how to get ut of this problem. BTW I am a UETian so study hasn't been any problem to me in the past..

It is happening with you on account of your current job and hastiness. You need to start your preparation now, just make a time frame to complete each subject in addition to that, you need to consult library, where the environement would likely compel you to sit for hours studies unlike in your home. I hope in this way, you would get in tracked..

Well, I'll try a library soon but as I have a separate room here and no one to disturb; I should be able to study and concentrate. And library is actually very far from where I live so that'd take a lot of time..

I face the same problem, and the best way to cope with this problem is to keep on trying not to give up. The moment you realize that you are losing concentration, tell yourself to pay attention, try to resist distracting thoughts. It will INSHALLAH help.

Then, do one one thing, switch off your cell phone and do not use laptop or any mean of communication which likely becomes hindrance in your preparation. Moreover, start from Pakistan Affairs and Everyday Science ..

start your preparation with full concentration avoid wasting your time in other thinking and too avoid making any kind of castles in the air instead of this that you think this and you cut off from your society you face your current situation and certainly you can face it and manage it better because human being have this ability my advise may be bitter but this is reality because we can,t avoid from our responsibility because we are not living in ideal world being science student you can stand the ideal world better. by living in your circumstances do work hard as you can then leave on ALLAH. may ALLAH help you. best of luck

You have to find out what works best for you.

Sometimes it is hard to start studying after a break but I do have some suggestions to get you back on track.

1. Take the CSS subjects and choose the one you like the most. From that, choose your favorite topic and start studying it with final CSS exam in mind.

In a few days, you will realize that you have got that 'thing' from your student days back and can now concentrate on your studies.

2. Whenever you get that adrenaline rush, take out your CSS stuff and start studying for as long as you can(I am talking about acting at the moment of that adrenaline rush and not thinking that 'I'd start studying one hour everyday from tomorrow'). Utilize your adrenaline rush to the best.

I am myself suffering from a similar situation with an uncertain future regarding my engineering career. Ive tried the above two methods. Maybe you can try them too. All you need is to get on the track and if you can keep it up for a week, that may be the initial push you needed. I wish you best of luck.

Yeah, initial push is all one needs. Once you are on track, there is not much hindrance and to keep up your stamina for so long, one needs a source of inspiration/motivation which can charge him when battery gets down or frustrations gets him. I got the missing piece here and I hope coming time is best for me and you all fellows. Thanks

Default Develop a New Habit of Studying

Well to be honest, this is the kind of problem many CSS aspirants face before starting preparation, its a psychological blockage that results from lack of studies for an extended period of time because your brain muscles and neural connections aren't exercised and used in an efficient way which break down the pathways that were established by mental work which results in lack of motivation and inability to study for long hours because the neural pathways have been structured that way slowly over time.

In order to get back on track and develop those neural pathways in your brain again, when there is an adrenaline rush as you said, sit down in a quiet place where no one can disturb you preferably a room, start with your favorite subject for CSS preparation and start studying. After sometime when the hormonal rush settles down in your brain, you may feel bored and exhausted wanting to get up and distract yourself from task at hand which is normal, that's the right time to concentrate and focus on what you're studying without giving attention to thoughts that are distracting you from work.

Studying is a habit and just like any habit it takes time to develop. As I mentioned above its the neural pathways that get shaped in a unique way due to lack of mental concentration but the moment you challenge yourself and stick to your plan despite mental and emotional exhaustion, that's the time these neural pathways start organizing themselves slowly overtime to suit your newly formed habit which is to study.

One need to be patient and persistent with his/her plans in order to form this new habit of studying which will take time to fully develop but once it does, you won't feel fatigue or enervation during studies but exactly the opposite. Then when you don't study at a particular time due to some reason, your newly developed habit will remind you of that and you'll get back to studies.

Moreover don't waste your energies by thinking too much because its destructive for mind and you'll drain all your mental vitality over something that hasn't manifested in reality and is simply not real. A little bit of adrenal rush and motivation for CSS is beneficial for your goals but taking it too far by thinking about it 24/7 will only lead to stress which will eventually distract you from your goals because you'll waste all your time and mental stamina on creating castles in air which will lead to further expectations from yourself and eventually disappointment.

Non-attachment is the best way to prepare for Central Exam, don't create high expectations and utopian fantasies regarding yourself because they're setting you up for disappointment. Be mindful of your thought processes and utilize it in a constructive way that can benefit your preparation and short term goals.

I hope my post can help you in starting your preparations,
Regards!
