having a prestige and ststus is everything u can desire.U can use ur authority to serve the ppl which otherwise quite tough to do.As CSPs are more related to common masses than any other.

well it is simply amazing 4 me that u have such a narrow conception of civil services, although u belong 2 a bureaucratic family. PSP-- u admit that they enjoy facilities but u dont like their lives, well it is ur liking nothing less nothing more

DMG-for ur info i wanna tell u that only the ACR of DCO is written by ZILA NAZIM and if u consider DMG as only the DCOship then it is stunning 2 me. Moreover, u r also unaware of the recent changes in the LG ordinance .previously, in case of difference of opinion between nazim and dco, nazim was 2 prevail but now the matter will b sent to provincial govt (DCO is the rep of provincial govt, so normally decision is in his favour) in majority cases nazim is virtually dependent on the DCO. i dont wanna go in detail as it will b boring 4 others
income tax and customs- dont worry govt is purchasing new cars 4 tax officers and in many offices they ve even reached.

FSP-- the exposure they get in their lives is simply remarkable. articles written by ex- FSP officers in different leading news papers like DAWN etc is a clear proof of their polished approach and exposure which they received during their service.

yes i agree that civil officers cant live a lavish life, but it is also a fact that financially they r better than 80 % of our countrymen. this fact cant b denied. dont compare with rest 20 %
i m also son of a high ranking bureaucrat & i know that 99 % bureaucrats want to see their sons as a csp which is a clear indication that they still consider css as the best option 4 their children
all those who wanna debate with arguments r welcome

Thanx

Well i think u took some serious offense at my post...i m sorry it was not my intention to do so...da only reason as i mentioned was to put a few things in da perspective instead of painting just a rosy picture...u c i was just writing from my perception...most of my frnds n colleagues who r aspirants of CSS have some sort of fantastic delusions which makes them think dat CSS is da solution for all their problems..they will become something high n mighty if they become a part of da services n will b minting money by da minute...u might not understand this notion as ur father is also a bureaucrat n u have seen da real setup but dats not da case with most of da others.

CSS raises ur standard of life..no doubt...but as i said u have to have a strong financial backbone to survive with ease in this setup...u c every setup has its own set of standards..n when u become a part of it u have to live by them as well...n maintaining dat standard of living on a CSP's salary is no mean feat...i mean nowdays da school fees for a single kid in a nice school is more than 3k...n a fresh CSP gets around.. wat like 17 to 20k a month? is dat enuf? n when u dont have da facility of a car or accommodation..it gets real hard...i agree dat CSPs do get a lot of exposure n they learn a lot...n dats worth sacrificing a lot...but dats not everything...u c financial problems eat all of da aspirations away...dats a fact...nobody can deny dat..so dat deprivation prompts a person to tread da wrong path...plus da promotions in most of da departments r real slow n da lack of appreciation is enuf to dishearten anyone...so no denying da fact dat there r a lot of positives associated with CSS but we have to weigh in da pros n cons n understand our priorities in life...for a person like me who has no financial obligations.

CSS is fine...but for some others da first 6-10 yrs r not goin to b sweet...y do u think more than 90% of male aspirants opt for PSP ? only coz of da facilities, da fast career growth compared to other departments n da power...which most of da other departments lack...n yeah i wud sure like to c da improvements in income tax n customs dat u have mentioned ...i do c da long term benefits of CSS but not everybody is dat farsighted

once again dats wat i feel..i might b wrong in my thinking but i m a realist...n prone to look at da whole picture instead of concentrating on a few aspects...so call it my narrow conception but i feel dat way...yet i m open to new thoughts n wud luv to change my mind if i m convinced enuf...

i just started da thread 2 see what inspires my fellows on dis forum?
i was pressurized by family. i was going to have a good life in the united states after my graduation but for some reasons my family has this strange fascination with CSS.
I am not very thrilled to have passed it this year to tell you the truth. at most i am indifferent.

to be realistic css is not an easy track in financial terms and a person is tempted to indulge into malpractices.......but to be honest the prestige css has, it is not comaprable to any private sector job any where in the world.....and frankly speaking a life of a csp is much better than a new fresh graduate joining the coporate sector for 25k to 35k (on average)...this is the salary pacakge of any corporate these days in Pakistan and mind you these jobs are not easy to get......yes there are some exceptional cases where you might be offered around 50k as start and in majority of the cases the truth is that one has to settle down for 10k to 15k......how many people end up earning 6 figures salary in pakistan and even if they do by that time a csp is not merely a grade 17 officer....his power, prestige and status is far more than any person.....compare an IG police with a director of any firm....

CSS is for those who dare to be someone........it is for those who realize the meaning of having authority...the rest is secondary...

everyone has his own preferences.Bt as far as prestige is considered CSS is worth doing.Even if u r earning 6 figure salary the facilities, status, power, social life and protocol that a csp enjoys is far more than that.
the social recognition, power, pride and respect of a csp is far more greater than any job in corporate sector.Ur acts can change the world of many and can bring a healthy change in ur society.Being a csp is much better than being a screw in a corporate machinery.
e.g.Me myself prefer css as i m working abroad having 6 figure salary.

being a csp you become able to sell your unique properties. I do feel pity for people who believe in the fact that csps serve the nation. These are all fake slogans. A csp is just a servant of those corrupt, and illegitimate beaureaucrates who always keep a personal axe to grind rather than their taking decisions in national interest.

@ flavia

ohooooooo i did not take ur post as a a serious offence. not at all. it is just a healthy discussion, nothing else. what i simply wanted to say is that CSPs r not as financially weak as r normally considered or as shown in ur post. apart from salary package, they r offered much by the govt. ( see my previous post)

As far as schooling of kids is conerned, u r right that a reasonable private school has about 3000 fee/month which cant be afforded by a CSP of 17 grade, but plz once again allow me to say how many Pakistanis can afford 2 send their children in these schools. i feel hardly (20-25%)
& i earlier said that dont compare with those 20 %. yar y we 4get that we r living in a country where about 30% population is living below the poverty line.

Watch GEO, ARY etc, people r standing in long queues 2 get one bag of ATTA, sugar etc. & which is also not available. dozens of ppl die due to gastro every year coz of drinking contaminated water, even today hundreds of women die due to lack of proper maternity facilities, even the medicines of common diseases like diabetes, B.P etc r out of the range of common masses.

In these grave circumstaces, if a boy of a poor family (HAVING NO FINANCIAL SUPPORT AT ALL---- which u consider a must),becomes a csp, IS HE A LOOSER OR A GAINER? ask ur heart?
plz dont b realistic on PTV style which projects SHINING PAKISTAN.
the problem starts when CSPs start making comparison with the 20 % of elite class which they simply cannot.

I m happy that like me u r also ready 2 change ur mind on solid arguments ( which is a rare phenomenon in our socity), as u ve seen the CSPs, plz make an honest comparison ( only in financial terms) between the life of an average pakistani( not the 20%) and an average csp
( having no strong background). i ll wait 4 ur reply in this regard
anyone who wants to discuss with arguments is welcome.

yes...

both sides r right
bcoz there r ppl living real lives in both public n pvt sector

one edge that csps tecnically hv
(if they cnt use that thats another thng!)
z the power of the state at their back!!

in our society there z nothing
as visible n effective as power

financial benefits r translated
into other kind of support

but ppl
v need both the public
n the pvt sector...
to hv a fruitful relationship

this tussel v r discussing
z carried into real life issues too!
