Default Help with Subject Selection CE-2017

I am an Electrical Engineer and am a little confused about selection of subjects. I want to give the CSS exams in 2017.
So far, I have decided that I could maybe take up the following subjects.
IR (200) from Group 1
Physics (200) from Group 2
Public Administration (100) from Group 3
History of USA (100) Group 4

Some alternates could be
Governance and public policy (100) from Group 3
Gender studies (100) from Group 5
International Law (100) from Group 6

As I have no prior expertise relating to any of these subjects, except for Physics - to some extent, what would you suggest?

Senior members, kindly comment and post your suggestion.
If possible, critically analyze the mentioned subjects keeping the following points in mind:

How has your past experience with these subjects been?
What has been the scoring trend in previous years?
How lengthy is the syllabus and how much time will be required to cover it?
Which subjects would form an overlapping combination?
What would be a better choice keeping in mind the recent changes in paper pattern(s)?
Paper Attemptibility?
Complexity versus clarity?

Looking forward to any feedback I'm also from engg background and although I've not finalised anything, I'm considering almost same subjects. IR, Phy, USA history and public administration. This combination sounds most feasible to me up til now

Well, as being related to the engineering field myself, I can only opine about your choice of Physics since the general idea for opting Physics is the supposed "proximity" with it since you are from an Engineering background.
If this is the case then you are gravely mistaken as going through Past Papers of Physics reveal. The engineers may have studied Applied Physics as a course of six months or EMF Theory but all of it is from the application perspective and not from the Theoretical Perspective. Sadly, it is the Theoretical Perspective which is required from candidates in the Past Papers mostly
If the engineer is confident enough of completing the Physics Syllabus in essence of Theories,Derivations and Applications then only should he opt for Physics.
Hence go through the vastness of syllabus, then the type of questions asked from Past Papers and only then form a perception of Physics instead of relying on your Engineering background as the sole skill at hand to opt Physics.

I am also an engineer and want to opt IR, Physics, IL and psychology. Seniors, please suggest is it a good combination? Is physics not risky?

I am also BSc EE, I am planning to opt
Subjects:
International relations (200 -group I)
Town Planning & Urban Management (100- Group III)
History of Pakistan & India (100- Group IV)
Agriculture & Forestry (100- Group V)
Geography (100- Group VI)

not very confident about agri-forestry, I would be thankful to any suggestions.

Ps. I have also heard a lot of physics most argue that it is time consuming.

Public administration demands prior studies and it a very extensive field. I dont think you should go for it in any case. I did my bachelors in public administration but I am not opting it. It looks easy but its pure evil. Go for gender studies instead if you are good at writing. All the best!
