Subject selection
Aoa, I am planning to appear in the 2019 CSS examinations and I have selected the following subjects:
Psychology Public administration International relations International law Environmental sciences. I am a medical student and I am planning to give BA examinations in 2018 with IR and psychology thus I don't have any experience with any of the subjects but they somehow managed to appeal to me. I need advice on whether this subject combination is good. Your help is appreciated. |

Skip public administration as it has a long syllabus to study and is tricky one. Environmental sciences will also give you tough time as you are a medical student. You can take one subject from history portion and one from social sciences. These subjects will further aid you in compulsory subjects.

So if I take history of USA instead of public administration it'll be better? If environmental science isn't a good option for me what should I choose? Since I can't choose sociology, anthropology or journalism because I already chose psychology from that group.

Also, I've heard that governance and public policies is a easy subject
and since it's fairly new a lot of people don't opt for it, thus it doesn't have much competition. What do you say about that? |

I have chosen this subject twice. I came to a conclusion that subjects should be selected which aid one in compulsory subjects. Such strategy will be fruitful at the end when aspirants have less time to revise what they have learnt more specifically during exams when one has to give two papers a day. Secondly, I will advise you to have a look of public administration syllabus. It's very lengthy. Finally, my experience of selecting this subject is that questions in exmas are not ask from syllabus directly. Rather they ask you questions from newspaper articles. I scored 64 in my first attempt in this subject. Yet i do not recommend it to others.

Take Gender studies into consideration as well for optional. It is a safe subject so far. But if you like science subject then go for environmental science. Everyone has different apptitude. Choose what you like and stick to it.

Brother I'm not discouraging you to select a particular subject. I have just shared my experience about selection of subjects. If you have aptitude for a particular subject you should not hesitate while choosing it as an optional as no subject is low scoring in CSS.
