Yeah.our opinion is analysis that is required but it should carry with itself some real logic and solid reasons to show that this opinion is really valid and is not mere combination of emotional and baseless thinking. For example Pakistan has saw 65 year of Apathy in Foreign policy. It has been made to lose his sovereignty at home by the huge debts being received.we have been aligned too much with West especially US and it has never brought us any good result except for huge aids which was for either Afghan Jihad in 80's or for so called counter terrorism in last decade but every time this made us more of dependent state then to be independent state and conditions were much worse after the need of Pakistan ended for West like Post Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan. In time of war, like 65,71 and even in 99 we were left alone by the west and there was no genuine help from the countries that we thought of as friends.it was our alignment with US that infuriated USSR to veto the cause of Kashmir in Security council for several year until that matter fell into a Limbo forever. Our neighbor, india, on the other hand has maintained ties with both Russia And US and even kept the status of "NON-ALIGNED". our reason of failure is both our dependence upon others and lack of will to stand on our own feet financially to be independent of the influence of foreign powers. see now this carries combination of both our reason WHY and logic HOW we lost our foreign policy front and due to loss of that front we need to have a change in our policy.more can be said but i have given you a vague idea |

my experience
i was actually very confused regarding css exam because all of my seniors around me used to degrade me but i took all these comments as compliment .
no doubt exam is nerve wrecking and can make your smooth life into hilly track , after all you are going to be a bureaucrat . my all papers went good as far as i posses good analysis . one thing must be sure that read question twice , thrice or more than that because fpsc knew that student already crammed bundle of books and due to tension he would mention unnecesary material but actually he required to the point answers . . . i have seen many students wrote anky banky things in their essay like MEANING AND PURPOSE OF EDUCATION , eventhough examiner only wanted meaning and purpose not more than that . well it was my first experience pray for me guys . it was not that much difficult as i have heard . . . turn deaf ear to people and concentrate on your studies . . . Best of luck to all the aspirants and pray for me. . .

css 2013 experience
a.o.a all i dont want to quote big sayings, big explanations or dramatic stories...i just want to say its doable..and very much doable all we need is proper time schedule that css needs..its a full time job..although we do hear such cases of exceptions who clear it during a job..luck factor is what we all forget...i mean all of us do work hard but our approaches differ our styles and thinking patterns differ.....so we have to play the game together to help each other out through this platform ...although i appeared this year just to experience the rules of the game...and i think its a great exam to nourish your abilities and channel them towards bright future....it was my first attempt..i dont regret giving away my first attempt..it surely proved valuable... i m MS in MBA... anyone whose optionals are concurrent to mine ,should feel free to contact me for help and achieve the aim synergetically
my optionals:- psychology sociology public admin geography(i might change it) |

2. Dont just read but understand what you are reading.Analyze it that what he is saying is even true or not.Im not saying to start judging that whatever is written in EDS about Brain is true or not.But start analyzing the opinions of the writers.Like if a writer is saying that Pakistan need to make consensus over Kalabagh Dam then think that is it possible?how is it possible? if someone is writing that Karachi is becoming the safe haven for Talibans then analyze and understand the backgorund that How or Why? answer to question about taliban is that there is a huge settlement of Pashtuns in Karachi and these settlements are easily available to taliban as they have both ethnic and emotinal belonging with Pashtuns.lot of other points can be accounted into it but again it was just a Demo. so again 1. Read good stuff 2. Understand and analyze that stuff

Shattered Dreams
The CE-2013 was my last attempt. My life, on the last day of exam, totally changed. I have no more chances to transform my dream into reality. Marked by failures, due to essay, my 3 precious years were ruined. I scored 670 with psychology and geography last year but as soon as I attempted the psycho paper in 2013, I knew my CSS was over. I knew that even if I pass, I wouldn't be able to get allocated. I burnt the mid night oil while staying in hostels for about 2.5 years. Adverse conditions like energy crisis, blazing heat and, financial crisis engulfed me with full intensity. I did things which I would have never otherwise done in my life.
English writing was always my best skill. In fact, it was a skill which pushed me to take this exam. I still remember when I got an A-grade in an English writing course while my whole batch got a D-grade. I still remember then time when my teacher said in front the whole class that she had never checked a paper like that before in her life. I still remember that my writings were given to other students as a sample for good writing. I still remember that I got 4 A grades in 4 English papers of my bachelor degree. Still I failed in English essay, which made me frustrated and confused to what was wrong. I went to all the so called ‘Essay Guru’ teachers so they might highlight the short-comings of my essay. But, they all ended up shaping my outlines one way or another which was of least importance as far as an essay is concerned. Some said skip intro some said skip conclusion which were wild ideas. I knew it because essays are not written without an introduction and conclusion. So, English proved fatal for me. Ironically, the stigma of failure due to the essay overshadows the whole performance of the candidate. Even parents and close friends are now skeptic about my competency. They have started to think that they might have interpreted my capabilities wrongly. There is no one to explain to them that a person who gets 70 in EDS, 73 in Sociology, 124 in Geography and 140 in Psychology is not at all an incompetent person. Resultantly, a sense of disgrace is prevailing in my personality. It is difficult to face people who have prayed day and night for my success. I was almost dead when my mother, who happens to be a primary pass, said to me “Tumko mazmoon likhna nae aata?” My career lags far behind those who graduated with me. I lost all my good days of youth in which I could have done something for my family. I could have at least helped them to come out of the crises they were facing. But, I failed to maximum extent. To cap it all, I did my best but I am totally shattered now. I no more say that English is my best skill. I have also stopped writing my blog and letters to the editors. I feel embarrassed and consequently I lost all my confidence. Now, I am someone who failed the CSS exam. Life will never be the same again. I don’t say that this is only my story. I just wrote it on part of all those who felt the same. I just wish you all best of luck and pray that you all be successful to achieve your dreams [Aameen]. With heavy heart and shattered hopes I return back to my old life – a life of someone unknown and a life of someone unimportant.

Don't be pessimistic about your result, things can be different when result will be declared. As you yourself said you were not expecting failure in essay but that happened, so you can be proved wrong in a positive way. Yet, if it comes as per your estimation, even then the game is not over. CSS is a mean not the end in itself, there is life beyond CSS, you can not see all of your dreams realized in your life, there is a power that is much more stronger and authentic than you. HIS favors are not so simple that we can understand, HE bestows us through other way if one is not working for us. I can understand it is not easy to accept circumstances when you are all over the place due to fortune or mistakes, but this is how life goes. 3 years have passed....no doubt.... were you sure about life of 3 years? No.. never. I know many people who are inside CSA and they rate people who are outside CSA, luckier. Your hard work will pay you anyways, if not through CSS. The commitment you have developed in yourself is a rule of thumb in life, the knowledge you have attained will serve you through every walk of life. Understand it is a competitive exam, all what you can do is to try. You cant stop others, you can cross them, if not.... you may be designed for some other track.

General Reading is very much necessary.
but in order to name some specific books i think Current Affairs by Imtiaz Shahid is one of the best books.Actually its a bi-monthly edition that is published carrying articles from World Politics to Pakistan Issues.Articles are published in famous newspapers,Journals and Magazines. You can make bullet notes of important concepts or points so that you can revisit them near the exam as well. Apart from that people also recommend Jahangir World times.I haven't gone through it but its a worth a shot Read also Editorials of Dawn also,as every one says.i also started reading them as following the crowd but after sometime realized that it helped me in shaping in my Point of view and understanding about certain topics.
