Yes, Commons is a sort of batch number, which was started if I am not wrong in 1972...Every batch which passes out the CTP, is recognized by this title...Like the first batch was 1st commons, 2nd and so on... And the csp's of year 2006 are 35thcommons...Those who joined civil service prior to this are called pre-commoners. Quote:

@power
for essay writing, you have to have a complete grip on language (English) first, eg. 1. control ur words "Spellings" its Essay not Eassy. 2. control ur Group of words "Sentence". 3. Control ur sentences "Paragraph" arrange them in such an order which make the topic clear. 4. Write ur paragraphs in chronological way eg. > first intro the topic > Argue in favor of the topic > argue against the topic (if possible) > give some remedies /suggestions > sum-up/conclude in the end. 5. Try to write this five paragraph essay. 6. Practice as much as u can with Trial and error method. 7. keep ur six senses open to collect handsome material to write on. This what I do for this subject. |

I want to say something about the idea of making outline in an essay. I don't know why but I personally don't like to make an outline in an essay. It just seems odd to me and I have never been able to force myself in favour of making outlines.I prefer to go straight away for writing an essay after the brainstorming and arranging the sequence of the ideas/points.
So far this strategy has always proven successful for me and I intend to keep doing it in future also. Can anyone explain to me as to why making an outline of an essay should be a preferred option. |

Out Lining an Essay
Dear Bro,
See what the seniors are advising, Many of them are qualifier in the CSS exam with distinction. We should learn something from them, or atleast we should give it a try. |

Dear i dont have enough time to explain why outline is important in essay and will only say that its very very important.Its helps you arranging your ideas in desired order. Once put down successively it helps you to concentrate on other things like grammar and spellings as you have already evolved ideas in the form of outline.And you dont need brainstorming for ideas. You write continuously and consistensely without pressurising your mind. I intend to give outline in every paper and in every question.................Its your outline which casts the lasting impression on examiner. hope it helps....

What I have learned from my past experience making outline is the best practice. I endorse all the suggestions of waseem gurmani.
In nutshell, it saves your time, gives a well thought path to follow without stopping at any time during your exam time, it keeps you balanced, helps you to manage time, above all its pressurizes you to produce more and more in a clear cut way which is relevant. When you are not sure about the relevance and correctness of your outline then write down outline on any rough page in the paper. That will surely help you while answering the question. For the sake of hiding your weakness don't present that outline in the answer just take it as your groundwork. I have been in habit of writing down the key points / outlines on the question paper infront of the relevant question as soon as I read the question. That helps me a lot to write logically and manage the time. Even that helps me in deciding the sequence of questions which should be attempted first and which should be left for last hour.
