you can never improve your vocabulary by cramming words meanings, since you will not be able to use them in any sentence because appropriate word will not come up to your mind when you would be writing something. best way to improve is reading books and newspapers, that with proper context of word usages it easy to understand and grasp the meaning and recall it when needed.

This would not be helpful in improving your English. Go through Dawn of whichever newspaper and highlight vocab and its usage. Gradually you come up with good treasure of vocabulary along with its proper usage.
