Default Please, clairfy this related to Precis exam 2018.

There were two words that were used in this year’s Precis:
“Saqafat” and “Taswwuf”.

I translated it as “civilization” and “asceticism”. However, Saqafat was used 4 times. 3 times I used civilization and once I used ‘culture’.

Now, some people have opined that I, and indeed many others who perhaps used the same words, may be penalized.

Should we expect being penalized?

Well your translation of both words is wrong. Culture is the right word. It is up to examiner now. He may not cross your translation completely and decide to award you marks. He will consider other parts of translation as well. He will definitely check spellings and structure. Yes, you people will lose 3-4 marks but I do not think so he will award you zero marks. So, quit worrying.

Proper translation of "saqafat" would be "culture" while "tasawwuf" can be translated as "mysticism".But no worries, you gave your best so now just pray to ALLAH swt.
