We cannot use any preposition after REACH. It is ARRIVE that is followed by a preposition like at, to or on.

We use present/participle.

I heard him say something his father. SAY DOESN'T SUIT AT ALL.

Well, to human is err.

I request to seniors members. Make me correct if I am wrong.

To err is human (to forgive is divine).

Correct use of the verb following HEAR.

1. I heard him say something to his father. (Verb + noun + infinitive)
2. I heard him saying something to his father. (verb + noun + -ing)
3. I heard that he was saying something to his father. (verb + that)

The most appropriate are 2nd last and Last.

My dear, all of them are evenly appropriate and applicable. Nothing of informality or disapproving is there in any of them.
