Do not merely look at the past papers. The Essay trend has been changed since 2014. Literary and creative essays have been encouraged; whereas, essays based on current affairs have been discouraged. For a vivid idea of what i am saying, refer to Essay paper 2015.

There was essay in 2015 essay paper : " The war on terror is contributing to the violation of human rights". Don't you think this is current affair topic. No doubt essay trend has been changed but current affair has not been discouraged rather its weightage has been reduced. You can also observe CE 2013-14 papers.
