Some of the measures could be:

Pre-Floods Measures:

1- Federal Flood Commission (FFC) should be revamped on modern lines. Accountability and Transparency in the projects/actions of FFC need to be ensured. As FFC works under the ministry of Water and Power, it needs to identify the potentatial areas, where new dykes/dams can be constructed to curtail the flood water.

2- Forestation: Forestation process in the Northern Areas especially needs to be started. Deforestation on the other hand, needs to be discouraged in the strongest sense.

3-Yearly check/audit of the flood control channels/dykes need to be ensured at the district level, especially in areas of Sind where the ground lays low and the water pressure is immense.

4-Timely Flood warnings need to be ensured and areas under the threat of floods need to be evacuated proactively. District Government needs to coordinate closely with Rangers/Army and to stand alter for all potential floods. National Disaster Management Authority can ensure that. However, it needs to be revamped and adequate fundings/trainings are required.


Post Flood Measures:

1- Raising all the resources for the flood affected areas on the earliest.

2- National/International Help needs to be envoked at the earliest. Army is the best example of such an agency.

3- Medicines and Medical Supplies need to reach the affected areas at the earliest along with food items etc.

4- Above all, it needs to be ensured that the lessons learnt from the previous floodings are not forgotten and corrective measures are taken for any future calamities.
