Default Global warming, to call it myth or reality?

What perspective should be defended in exam. Myth or reality?

First get this straight: There is no denying that the temperature of the globe is on the rise. But the question is; what portion of the rising temperature can be attributed to the green house gases (GHG).

There is little doubt that the frequency and ferocity of these recurring natural disasters has notched up lately. Scientists have also concluded that the temperatures and the GHG (green house gases) level in our atmosphere are on the rise.
But with what certainty can these two phenomena of rise in GHG level and rise in the temperature be interlinked? No one can establish the link with absolute certainty and there are no scientific evidence to corroborate this. Even if we could somehow prove that the rising temperatures are linked with the GHG levels, how could then one establish as to what percentage of global warming is associated with the rise in GHG levels? Also baffling is the fact that Earth has experienced periods of relative warmness in the past when the level of GHG had remained untempered.

Proponents claim that the very fact that GHG result in increase of temperature, no matter by what percentage, is enough to elicit a coordinated effort from people around the globe. Opponents claim that the world is currently facing graver threats needing more attention than to pursue a solution for partly hypothetical situation.

recently i came across a news report in a local daily which quoted a research regarding the Glaciers in the Himalayan range; according to which the amount of ice there has increased significantly in the recent years posing some serious questions on the validity of global warming phenomenon.

Miss Xaara...

I think the best thing is the cover the question under both of the heads. You may simply quote that there are various schools of thoughts. One School of thought regarded Global warming an exaggerated debate, where as the other school is of the opinion that this issue is underrated. One final thing, the word "Myth" denotes something beyond understanding or calculations, where as this issue is simply not proven properly by someone to call it exaggerated. So it's never a myth.

Wish you all the best.

I have heard one thing from teachers and seniors alike i.e. Whatever stand you take in Essay or be it elsewhere in life, stick to it and try your best to justify it. In case of Global Warming, the evidence is available in abundance in both favour and against the phenomenon. However, to be on the safe side, I would recommend calling it a reality rather than a myth. You will find it easier to justify since it's the only global issue which brings together entire world on one platform. Whether it's really a fact or a fiction is left for the scientists to argue and make us believe. After all, we just want to pass the Essay paper. Isn't it?
