Post Standard Length of an Essay ?
Salaam fellows, I am new to this forum and interested in CSS exam. I have a question regarding the length (word count) of an essay. Can any one tell me, what is the standard or acceptable length of an essay? (given that we have 3 whole hours to write a single essay).

First of all welcome at the forum.My best wishes are with you to get from and contribute something productive at this forum.

Essay length depends upon your speed which should not be at the cost of accuracy. Length,devoid of accuracy, leads to failure. So concentrate on quality of what you write:grammar,structures,knowledge,analysis and so on.
Condition of writing 4000-5000 words in CSS Essay paper is merely a formality as some of my friends,according to whom, passed the essay paper by writing about 1800-2000 words.If you can write 2000-2500 words then it will be suffice and safely out of danger...

one must do full justice to the topic and exam. it's css after all.

however in my opinion, any well written essay consisting of 2500+ words should fetch good marks.

CSS is not an uphill task. Dont take pressure...just do your best.
And keep in mind that it is not merely the number of words that count but it is quality of words which is the most important factor in CSS Essay. So dont trouble yourself with quantity-mania of words and keep focus on quality of quantity.

The word count for the essays demanded by the examiner is around 2500-3000 words.The time duration 3 hrs seems a lot for one essay but trust me when your are in examination room time flies away so fast that its only then you realize if i had the time i could have added that point.....
Out line also takes bit of your time alloted to your essay but making an outline first helps you organize your essay well.
The quantity does matter but one must never compromise on quality,your essay must have all the ingredients for success.

It depends on how much quality u have rather thn quantity. So if you have material to write upto 2500-3000 words it's good enough. Otherwise I wrote about 1800-2000 words and got 58(though I contribute it to my luck rather than my ability ).

I wrote an essay of around 1500-1800 words and the question paper had mentioned i think more than 2500 words but still got 61 marks so its a tricky case

I also attribute it to luck more than ability

P.S my topic was "Materialism is the death of spirituality" hardly anyone I knew attempted this topic so I think less crowded topics help ,may be only may be

dear ur touch with current affairs is good as it is essential to get knowledge for writing a good essay. as for as books are concerned for essay writing i dont think there is a specific book of essay writing. for some rules and regulations about essay writing u may read Wren & Martin book and Exploring the world of english of Syed Saadat ali shah.
