Man is a social animal. No doubt, every human being enters the world with the inborn right of freedom of expression. freedom of speech is a great blessing. However, this right, if used absolutely would lacerate the social fabric of a human society. It would play havoc with law and order situation. in addition it may have drastic consequences on all the spheres of an individual’s right. Absolute freedom of speech may cause enterprises to go bankrupt overnight. it may endanger the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries. This absolute right may also cause vulnerable section of the society to fall prey easily. It may expose even the private life of individuals, risking their psychological harmony. If debarred, freedom of speech will lead to vulgarity and sensationalism of sex and crime. Countries may be brought to the brink of war if limitations on speech are not observed. Even at personal life, if an individual is not mindful of his words, he may put his relationships at risk. In short, absolute freedom of speech Can disturb individual and collective life of the inmates of the society. History stands witness that whenever individuals have tried to go beyond the confines of freedom of speech, it has posed drastic challenges to the entire humanity. It is imperative that international bodies, governments, media and individuals themselves should use this liberty sensibly, effectively and for the welfare of larger section of the humanity.
