Islamiyat is a big subject which needs to be studied thoroughly before going to exam. After getting basic knowledge from books, Dawn provides intellectual thinking process. It is not point-to-point question that matters, rather it is the quality of argument. I remember well that Dawn has covered topics like 'Sharia'; 'Social Justice'; 'Human Rights' and 'Day of Judgement'.

I am sure if you search out dawn previous editions, you will find these topics. However, you must be mindful of the fact that though Islamiyat paper is closely related to current affairs but it never misses the link with the theoretical studies. So, the aspirant is not/not expected to depend on Friday feature only to appear in a competitive exam.

Again, it is the quality of argument, style of expression, skill of objectivity that comes from Dawn and in that sense it is really a 'bible' for CSS.

A.salam
Dear aspirant you are mistaken as u possess contrary image of the dawn newspaper to the accepted one. If you couldn’t have found any relevant topic of particular subject u r advised not to blame the newspaper. In fact it is vital paper as it provides information on manifold subjects. And yes there is evidence even of the subject u have mentioned `Islamiat`. Please go through Dawn of Feb 30 2012 and April 06 2012. You would find topic from Islamiat syllabus-“Of Life after death” on former date and “Concept of justice” on later.

it is no more than 10 %..and i have given that figure as maximum staying within the safe zone and relying on your options..there is no specific page you can read but International feature page can be read to stay abreast with what is going on around in international arena..if you have a look at CSS Papers of last 5 years or even before, you will come to know that Dawn had nothing to do with that..all you need is analytical approach to explain things in terms of why? How? Who? i have seen that people do special things like cutting news clippings and pasting them in a separate register beside pouring lot of precious time but in the end it all goes wasted..
How to get current affair notes?
ANS: it is a simple task, no notes are required, read the national and international page of Dawn and take a general perspective about an issue then think about it implications on world and Pakistan..
How to get essay notes?
ANS: you are asked to write essay on generally 5 types of topics i-e
1: Any Philosophical saying like "Obesity is the root of all diseases"
2: Any social problem like "Inflation", "corruption" etc.
3: Any contemporary crisis like "Iran's Nuclear Turmoil"
4: A problem and its implications by ISLAM like "Freedom of women in ISLAM"
5: Any Economic issue
now you see that there is one type that is covered by Dawn and that is type 3 i-e any contemporary crisis, now to prepare that all you are required to do what you did with preparing current affairs from Dawn..
i hope i have answered it comprehensively..any further query will be welcomed..

Dawn can be precious upto 50 per cent in css.
for How & Why read the Dawn 2 months and then try to solve 2012 papers, you will know this answer by yourself
Main page of the Dawn should be read , then page no 6 and 7 are very imporatant, after that read international page, i think its enough...
make a register and divide it into topics. whenever you found education article in paper ,cut it and paste on the register, when you will revise then you will find all articles of the same topic at one place
this will also help you in essay, moreover for essay also collect data from internet and academy notes and books

i think our year by year study and reading of general books provide more knowledge and grip on competition exams.undoubtedly,Dawn is good newspaper but one who says that it is a Bible of css or English, that's totally wrong.
one who wants to enhance his intellectual knowledge he should study the books of foreign authors because they have in depth knowledge and vast research work comparatively our authors .is there any author in pakistan's 64years history whom we can say he is more able than Noam Chomsky or any other good foreign authors??
i am not advocating the westerns but these are facts.
i think dawn should read for only current affairs to some extent but it will never help us in essay or to cent percent qualify the Css exam.this will be an illusion if someone thinks so.

essay is an art and a special teacher who has great command over english and knows the tricks of css can help you.you may read dawn for two years and try to yourself for passing the essay without the consultation of a good teacher i think you can never pass.
